Hey,
I was curious to what samples the boys used on that song 'pass the mic'...the guitar and those squeal sounds..do those come from old jazz or rock records or something? they sound tight...
if anybody knows where they come from..drop a reply..thanx..

The Bass is Ron Carter (most likely on the CTI Label.) I've got a bunch of Ron Carter records and even more records where he plays the bass but the album is in someone else's name. I don't think I've come accross that specific sample though.
The high pitched sound at the beginning, is Flute. Its James Newton. This is the one they got sued over.
The drums are "I walk on guided splinters" which is a famous drum break used by many. Its even on the "Ultimate Breaks and Beats" series that every DJ and his mom has.
I'm pretty sure the heavy guitar riff is the Bad Brains sample.

That website doesn't say were the "goodness gracious" comes from. Or does it? Or did I dream that?

They sample two Bad Brains songs. The guitar riff in the beginning is "Big Take Over"
And in the Anthology notes Yauch says they sample "I" from the same bad brains album.
"walk on guided splinters" is a nice track on its own right.

Nice one. I've never come accross that one. That is Ron Carter on the bass on that album.
