KANDAHAR, Afghanistan
Two Canadian soldiers were injured today in a traffic accident near Kandahar. A passing truck clipped the gun of a light armoured vehicle whipping the turret around and striking the two so-called air sentries in the rear.
Both men, who've not been identified, were evacuated to nearby Kandahar airfield by U-S helicopter. Lieutenant Mark MacIntyre, an army spokesman, says the injuries are not life-threatening. He says it's not clear whether the convoy originated at the main Canadian base or at the provincial reconstruction post in Kandahar itself.
MacIntyre says it's not unusual for the gun barrel to be trained to the side when the vehicle commander wants to look down an alley or laneway.
He says driver of the civilian vehicle was warned to stay away, but plowed right on through without stopping, even after the accident.
