You should bookmark this (http://welove1997.blogspot.com/) page, zorra. Every couple of days or so you can travel on back to '97 and relive the "magic". I don't really see the significance of '97, personally, and I was actually kinda thinking the same when I stumbled on this blog a couple of weeks ago, but it was probably just as good as any other year, I guess.

Ah, 1997. When Aussie rock was at its peak and I was playing in bad punk bands, developing a serious alcohol addiction and generally behaving in a disreputable manner.

Magic Dirt, Warped!, Sandpit, Asteroid B612, Crow, Screamfeeder, Sonic Youth, Something for Kate, Sidewinder, The Simpletons And the Lucksmiths were some of the stuff floating my boat then. there's no songs I know, Zorra, you'll have to forgive me for my memory is a little hazy.

But yeah, 93-98 for Aussie rock!!

That was a pretty fun period of my life. Can't remember much though, except throwing up 3/4 a bottle of cheap vodka onstage at an underage gig my band was playing at. Pretty classy, huh.

When did Jigga and Foxy do Sunshine? I loved that song.

Don't forget Babyface singing the chorus. They did it in '97 for his album, In My Lifetime...Vol. 1. I remember it because it was the first time I had heard of this Jay-Z cat. I also remember seeing the music video for it on MTV. All those bright colors of the rainbow, Jay-Z in the shiny suit using the fish eye camera lens. Jay-Z HATED that video.

Cosmic girl and Barbie Girl have been the best 2 songs i've ever done on kareoke. so 1997 rocked for great poppy music

i must say tho, quite possibly being the biggest jamiroquai fan on this board, Travelling Without Moving came out in 1996, but the cosmic girl single came out in 97 so i guess that's ok.

i'd say i've heard Cosmic Girl more times than any other song ever. Intergalactic comes close tho.

although there were some great, stand out tracks from '97, it was predominantly the year of the onslaught of crummy jump-up. all those great build ups with the hip-hop samples, then the tunes would descend into complete uninspired mediocrity. it took over dnb and it was either jump-up you heard everywhere, or dark tunes. things wouldn't begin to diversify, with an influx of differing genres, until late '98 (ie dillinja's bambatta remix) or '99.
