so almost two weeks ago, i get this job right, at this new restraunt. it used to be a chain bbq place, but then a parter bought in and it became a pizza and sub place, but still served the chain bbq sandwiches. it was a crappy job, and it was shadey too, from the start. it wasnt doing well buisness wise, and one of our employees robbed us. the police investigation led to them getting all the names of everyone that worked there and one of the cooks had an outstanding warrent so he got arrested too, and our ABC license was done wrong so they confiscated all our alcohol the other day, and anyway, i always got a weird feeling from the family that owned it. i joked around that they were mafia and the restraunt was just a cover to launder money....

yeah, so, today is payday. im supposed to get payed over $250, and thats pretty much for a weeks worth of work, work done while im also doing school with makes it harder. except the owner and the owner's dad that actually ran everything, they're nowhere to be found. they disappeared two days ago, along with the restraunt equipment.

so now im jobless and broke, i have -$5 in my account. the weird thing is im not even really suprised. actually, im not suprised at all. i mean i knew they were mafia or conmen all along.

i just dont understand why theyd disappear like that. i hope the manager guy gets some new info, he said to call him back in about a week to ask whats goin on. in the meantime, it's job lookin time

the co-owner, who is in charge of the bbq part, he's supposedly trying to find a way to get us paid, but what it basically comes down to is that its not his responsibility, and if his only option is paying us out of his pocket, im betting it wont happen.

You should file a wage claim immediately with the labor board in your state. That way, if the restaurant goes bankrupt, you might get some money BEFORE suppliers and whatnot. And, if the co-owner guy bails the business out, he'll owe you, too.

and does it matter that the family that owns the buisness disappeared? cause they cant really make someone pay me thats not there

Go to your state's web site and look for labor board or wage dispute.

Someone will buy the assets (and liabilities) of the business. You should put yourself on that liability list. It won't happen tomorrow, but down the road, you should get paid.

Oh, and find another job.

im working on that second part. applying to the university bookstore. it says they offer textbook loans... i dont know if that means they let you borrow textbooks from them or they loan you money, but whatever. starting application...... NOW!

thats fucked up. but i've had mafia family suspiscions too once i went with my bro to a restuarant that had all these framed pics of famous mafia people like gotti, capone wutever i don't know the rest but wen i went to the bathroom there was this door that said employees only well this big guy comes out and i take a peak while the door is still open and i see a big room with a long table and a bunch of people discussing shit and one had a brief case but it looked like a classic stero-type mafia family:p
