I don't believe this story. I don't believe Bush refers to Ahmedinejad as "the new Hitler", he can't be that stupid.

The Daily Telegraph isn't exactly a tinfoil hat newspaper. It's been around for well over a century, and is a conservative newspaper.

Something I'll be e-mailing my MP about right this second.

For other UK people who are outraged / troubled / uncomfortable about this, you CAN make a difference.

as stupid as the current administration is, I have serious doubts they are stupid enough to seriously consider the prospect of nuking Iran other than just tossing the idea out in some briefing.

It would definetly destroy Iran, and cause economic crumble worldwide. Most countries involved in trade with the US would probably pull back or cut their ties with us. We would lose all of our allies. The public outcry before the Iraqi war started would seem minor in comparison.

The US cant run the planet alone as much as our government would like to think so. There would be severe ramifications for doing so beyond the scope of what any neoconservative think tank could even begin to project.

Yah, I'd like to think so, but I don't have as much faith in "common sense." Iraq has proved conclusively that "common sense" doesn't apply to US foreign policy. As untenable as war in Iran seems to everyone here, we said all of that about Iraq.

Iran has been on the hitlist since way before Sept 11th and Iraq, and to think that the administration won't jump on this is rather wishful.

And really, given the deaths in Iraq and continuing bad publicity, do you really think that a nuke would be that unappealing? The US are all about long range warfare where no-one sees the casualties. The neo-cons are probably looking at Iraq, thinking "when did we lose it?" and going "ah, it was when our troops started getting killed..."

Capitalising on the "Nuke the whole lot of them!" sentiment, which does crop up more than you'd think isn't that far-fetched.

And, at best, it could be seen as high-balling us all. "Oh, they aren't nuking them, so the invasion is ok..."

This is very true. Before the Iraq war there was hints dropped about the possibility of using nuclear warfare as well. I think mention of that to the media does sort of set off the paranoia they want. In comparison a conventional war softens the blow in most peoples minds.

Looks like the nuclear option is off the table, I'm thinking this is a highball. Make the nay-sayers look silly, or in error, before saying "oh, but we're still having a war."

can the rest of the world just invade the states and divy it up?

And build a wall between the south and the north, that would be interesting.

There are few cries about North Korea, now. Maybe the rest of the US media has finally figured out without oil, there's no there, there.

You'd think hydrogen powered vehicles would be cheaper to develop than a war, wouldn't you?
