View Full Version : What do you want to do with your life?

Seriously, more or less. What do you hope to accomplish?

For some reason I'll consider my life a failure if I don't grow up to be rich, famous and succesful. Fortunately there is still plenty of time and plenty of opportunities left for that to happen. I still got a long way to go but I'm on schedual I guess. Also I want to marry and get somebody pregnant with my kids that would be sweet. And thats it.

As I sat down in front of my newly formatted computer a few seconds ago, I looked at the emptiness of it and lack of programs I have installed. I thought, fuck I'm so sick of computers. I think I'd like to be a wildlife photographer, making national geographic type documentaries. I don't think it will ever happen, I feel like I'm past the whole learning phase in my life and am too entrenched in my job. It's all nice and easy to learn while you're living with your parents but I've missed that boat :(

Mostly, I'm pretty much doing it. I've got an interesting job that I love, that I know matters and makes a difference in people's lives. I've gotten to travel a bit, and will likely get to do more in the future. I've got a good marriage with a good, honest, hardworking man whom I adore, and we're having a baby any day now - a little girl whom we have reason to believe will be healthy and have all the right amount of fingers and toes and whatnot, so there's a whloe new adventure we're about to embark upon.

So what's left to do? Well, I have it in my head that I am going to write and publish at least one successful novel, so that needs working on. And as the coming baby may well be our only biological child (I'm not getting any younger), we've talked about possibly adopting another child or two when the time seems right. We'll see.

I'd like for us to make enough money that I am able to take care of my parents as they get older if they need me to, and for my sister and her son, who will almost certainly need me to, and for mr.p and I to be able to have a comfortable retirement someplace nice, without becoming too dependent on anyone else.

So everything's more or less on course really, but as Emerson once wrote, "The voyage of the best ship is a zigzag line of a hundred tacks," so who knows what may happen along the way?

Well I was the head chorister of one of the best choirs in this country for 7 years, I've done quite a few solos with other choirs, paid for my own schooling through a singing scholarship at my high school. I've also played guitar for 3 years.

But I havent actually ever sung non-choral music which is a big obstacle.

I just want to retire from a decent job and it's not going to be from this one. Either a park ranger or I'm really debating on being a drill instructor for a prison boot camp. I've already worked inside the compound and it seems hopeless because they've already got their priorities set so, you can't really help them out.

I'd like to at least try to help the younger ones out before they do end up inside the compound.

One thing I do is excell in my hobby in playing bass and get into another band. It's going to be very soon, I'm currently writing music and lyrics and I want enough to have at least enough for a cd before I go looking for another band.

When it's all finished and I become old and grey and retired, I just want to live in the great outdoors next to a river and fish and golf till I croak.

Drill instructor is not my kind of thing, but when I was a kid I always wanted to be a park ranger. I don't really know what they DO though. Of course I have some vague idea but I don't really know.

being a drill instructor is just on how you want to portray yourself as being one. I'll have the same approach on it as I did in being a c.o. I just keep in mind that I'm not their punishment. I will always try to be a reflection of my basic training d.i. He was the shit and very motivational. When I first got there, I couldn't run 3 miles for the life of me but for the final p.t. test, I ran the 3 mile run in 15.6 minutes.

For being a park ranger, I'm going to take the federal route because housing is part of the deal. You basically ensure the park is safe, no poachers and you also can guide tours and it even entails searching for lost hikers and rescuing stranded mountain climbers and supervising fire fighter crews. State park rangers do the same but the pay is a little less and chances of promotion are minimal.

^ A lot of what you siad there was pretty interesting, but 3 miles in 15.6 minutes... That is incredible

oh man, I could never do that again. I puked my brains out afterward. If I didn't pass that final p.t. test, I would have been recycled which means going through basic again. Fuck that.

Here's (http://www.calmis.cahwnet.gov/file/occguide/PARKRNGR.HTM) some more info on being a park ranger bro. It's dated 1995 so I can imagine that the salary has increased a little by now.

I was looking for a part-time job in IT and by definition that usually means a call center job. I got fed up with stupid companies and the prospect of a shitty job getting yelled at by people for things that aren't your fault so I decided to do something completely different.

I got a job at a travel agents that specialises in the south of Italy (where my parents are from).

Instead of people calling me to solve their computer problem and getting yelled at for supposedly causing them I'll get to converse with people that are going on vacation and will get to go visit the different houses we rent to people.

Maybe in six months I'll be desperate for something more challenging (IT wise) but who knows, I might just keep doing that for a couple of years.

I'd be more than content to keep IT a hobby and work in a completely different field.

I pretty much view computers like cars these days, and if you work in a call center that's like being a mechanic who does roadside assistance, and if you work in a computer shop you're either a mechanic or a salesman. Only if you're a mechanic doing roadside assistance you probably get treated a little better than a call center employee, cause people won't blame you for problems and they'll actually thank you for helping them. I've never actually done the call center thing, but I have a couple of mates who did and one went pretty insane. My job with computers isn't too bad, it's mainly design work with some web design too, so it's not monotonous and boring, but I still feel the need to get out of this office sometimes.

- being able to support a family (financially and emotionally). Me, my husband, and at least two children. We don't have to be rich but I want to be comfortable.
- becoming an accomplished artist. Then teach other aspiring artists.
- becoming more involved. Even if it means being behind the curtain and just helping via donations for volunteer time.
- becoming more and more healthy.
- becoming more than happy with my situation.

I guess my aims in life are simple:

A) To not worry about money
B) To not worry about my job
C) To learn as much as I can about things I'm interested in
D) To spend more time in the woods
E) To spend more time on my bike
F) To become incredibly productively creative
G) To become self sufficient
H) To be able to really and truly relax and unwind
