Stoned?
I was at a friends's house, he had a party last night. We were all pretty hungover so yeah there were a few spliffs going round. I'm just reading some thread on the IMDB boards where people are having a fat argument about whether you need to have experienced drugs to appreciate this film. Has anyone here seen it but never touched drugs before?

Yeah I havent touched illicit drugs, only booze, and I've seen it. Although I've heard its much more entertaining if you're a junkie.

Its a good film no matter what, I never did acid or amphetamines and I loved it. I do spark the la quite often but weed doesn't have anything to do with what they're going through in that movie, so I think its not necesary to do drugs to appreciate it

Yeah I just guess to some clean-cut anti drug types it would be a bit offputting how they're dropping tabs or snorting every 2 minutes. Like some people believe that doing drugs automatically makes you a bad or stupid person. Not that those people are wrong, it just might stop them empathising with the main characters or some shit.

I dont think you need to have had drugs to appreciate - just to know that the characters were doing shitloads of strong shit is enought to make anyone realise whats going on in that film

I have it and "Where the Buffalo Roam" in a DVD boxed set. Fear and Loathing 0wns, but Where the Buffalo Roam is eerily similar. Makes me think Gilliam and co watched it repeatedly before attempting F&L. That or both are outstanding at capturing HST's mannerisms.
I was bitching about how the DVD costs damn near 40 dollars, and the nest day, I found the VHS at Value Village for 95 cents. awesome.
Oh, and it's a good movie, too.

I was really dissapointed with Where the Buffalo Roam...although Bill Murray did a good job.

It is a bit rambling and anti-climatic. My friend prefers WTBR, I think he said it was because it was less contrived. I prefer F&L though, I am a big fan of Gilliam's work.

'We were somewhere around Barstow on the edge of the desert when the drugs began to take hold.'
Best opening line ever. In fact, the whole first paragraph is gold.

I'd say it's safe to say the whole script is gold. I was in stitches for about an hour when Raoul said "penetrate every hole on her tiny body with your throbbing, uncircumsized, purple member". :D (y)
