I have never been very social amongst strangers. I've got difficulties starting conversations or keeping them, if they don't have anything to do with music or horticulture. And especially with guys I shy away totally. Now a few weeks ago I went to the garden fair with my sister and I bought some seeds and when asking for some Astrantia seeds (the flower's in my business logo) I started talking with the guy about finds in the trash and of difficulties throwing stuff away (don't ask how we got there!) and when my sister came to us she was surprised seeing me having a conversation with a strange bloke. "See it wasn't that difficult!" she said!
Then last Friday I was at Debaser (a Link Wray tribute night). First there was this guy I had a "crush" on about a year ago (I'd seen him at Debaser several times, totally my type, sideburns, almost my age, salt and pepper hair, always with a cool T-shirt on, and on the third time I thought I'd better make a move and tried to talk to him, but he wasn't interested or maybe he couldn't hear cause the music was so loud and then when he was checking out his coat I slipped a program in his pocket with one certain date encircled (my birthday/record release party / the Hives secret gig) and my phone number, but he never called and didn't turn up at the gig either, didn't see him again until last summer while queueing at a hole-in-the-wall on the way to the Accelerator festival, he passed by talking on the phone, half-stopping when he saw me, but then continued when he realised who it was). He was walking towards me without first noticing me, but when he did he literally turned on his heels. It made me totally LOL for real! Then later while waiting for the Nomads to come on there was this guy who'm I'd seen at gigs for the last 10-15 years, always with his girlfriend (when I saw them the first time, at Clawfinger, they looked like relics from the 80's, "Hey look at us! We're from up noorth!" They still look the same!), but he was alone. He started talking to me, asking first what time it was (23:23) and then I showed him some photos I'd taken earlier that night and we talked some. Later when we were waiting for the last band to come on (we weren't sure who it was) I told about missing the Hives on my birthday cause I always leave the venue when the band has played and it was a well kept secret, he kept touching me, not too much, but enough times to make me uncomfortable. When we heard some guitar tuning from the stage I took a picture underneath the curtain and saw it was the Hives I got so excited I dropped my camera and the lens went all wonky, wouldn't close and I had to bang it and all the filming I made after that became half out of focus... :(
Anywhoo...
I keep thinking about this guy, even tho he wore a Velvet Revolver T-shirt and stuck in the 80's, HE TALKED TO ME! And came back later. There ain't that many who've done that. So I'm not quite sure how to feel next time I see him... Is he back with his girlfriend or what? I didn't see him after the gig, I was too excited after the last song finished and wanted to leave for home in euphoria.
