It's alright, just as long as you don't go steppin' on Tony Soprano's toif.

I've only been there once really briefly and it seemed nice enough. Lots of people talk trash about Jersey and I don't quite know why, but whatever. It seemed chill enough to me, maybe just a little bit too rich for my blood though.

Hey, I'm from Jersey City. She must not have been there for a while! You can't buy a house downtown for less than half a million. I thank my lucky starts every day that we bought when we did - best investment we could have ever made. All those downtown neighbourhoods now are well happening.

Actually though, it is definitely still quite ghetto in a lot of places, and I imagine always will be in pockets. That's the nature of a city though, isn't it. But overall, I dig it; I think it's a really cool city and if for whatever reason we were to leave London and move back there, I'd be quite OK with that.

yeah, she was born in 44, and lived there to 84.
the rest of my family has lived there all their lives. apparently there's a lot of...gentrification? is that the word?

Yeah, it probably would have still been kinda crappy then. That's about when the tide started turning; all that crazy 80's Wall Street money. Some of my neighbours who've been there a while have told me stories of how they were able to buy their brownstones with deposits they got as cash advances off their credit cards, and how they had to dig bullets out of the walls and replaster and stuff. But seriously, prices there now are unbelievable - after 9/11 a lot of financial companies relocated their HQ's across the river to Exchange Place, plus there's been tons and tons of other waterfront development, and now there's so much money around it's just crazy. Your mother wouldn't recognise the place, I guarantee.

I grew up in North Jersey - it's rural (they have lots of bears) and near the Appalachian trail. NJ has everything from horse country to city to beach towns. It gets a bad rap, but other than the shitty property taxes and it's expensive to live most places here, it's pretty and is close to lots of things to do.

im not particularly fond of Newark, Trenton, or Camden...

South Jersey is nice, the beaches, Atlantic City, State Parks are nice...

Northern Jersey has a bunch of rich suburban folks, they live in their cookie cutter communities and drive their fancy cars over the GW bridge every day...

FACT: Jersey girls are notoriously slutty, in fact their commonly reffered to as Jersey pigs instead of Jersey girls.
