View Full Version : Standing in the "punk" section at HMV can enrage you...

Honestly, if I'm at the mega-music store at the mall like an HMV, I really can't be browsing in their punk section for too long or else I will just get really really angry.
Since the real punk bands sit alongside the fake punk bands, it's inevitable you'll find the teens gawking over the fake stuff.
So one day, I was checking out this section, looking at Husker Du albums and the like when all of a sudden two 15 yr old girls start looking at the Hawthorne Heights albums and are all gawking over them saying how "awesome" they are and started comparing each album's supposed awesomeness. So I roll my eyes and figure I better go check out Ramones albums or something, just so I don't have to hear them.
Then I head over to that end of the section when I see some other mallpunk kid looking at Taking Back Sunday albums. He checks their selection of their albums and goes: "The new Taking Back Sunday album is... *pause* not here" and then lets out this sigh indicating how heartbroken he is to not find this album.
Good god, it's enough to make you wretch. :(
P.S. - It's also a pretty sad state of affairs when the likes of Iggy Pop get found in the "Pop/Rock" section at said store, yet somehow Good Charlotte is in the "Punk" section. Gimme a break.

Answer: Don't buy from HMV if it bothers you that much. Or write a formal complaint, if it doenst get a response at least it will get a few laughs.
Surely you have a better cd store near you.

Wow. Your life must be an absolute living hell.
Seriously, I don't think I could give a rat's ass what another person chooses to buy at a music store, let alone feel an actual emotion over it.

Also, the Ramones fucking suck.

Just dont buy it during your break. Wait until you actually go cd/record shopping at a place you like with a decent selection and category system. Anyway I thought you had pretty much every cd ever invented anyway :p

the store i always go to just remodeled their entire store
i really like it, minus the fact that all the budget discs are so close to the floor that you practically have to lay down to see them. i pretty much live off of trying to find something worth listening too in the cheap section every time i go there, so their new setup makes it hard

Oh you young whippersnappers and your HMVs. Back in my day, if we wanted to buy real punk rock records, we had to cut school and go all the way into New York City and make our way to Bleeker Bob's. Then we had to take the dirty clothes down to the crick and beat them on rocks. This is back when nickels had pictures of bees on them, of course. "Gimme five bees for a quarter," you'd say. Where was I? Oh yeah - so I had an onion on my belt...which was the style, at the time.

We also then argue about which is better, Under Siege or Under Siege 2.

You know, you're a much bigger poseur than any of those kids. Thats all they know. You, however, you're "informed" about musical goings on. Abeit, from the likes of Rolling Stone and Spin most likely. You're a sad, sad, sad copy of a "real" "hipster" or "music" "snob""."
You eat up pictures of the Strokes and scene kids from your glossy magazine, and you go out and buy a suit jacket, or a sports coat, throw some pins on it, namedrop the new "it" band in nme and presto! you're super neato coolo brett the mod!!!!!
To use an analogy you might understand, you're the Killers to a real hipsters Gang of Four. No dude, you're not even the Rapture. You're not even Franz Ferdinand. You're not even a direct descendent of a real hipster douche. You're a copy of a fake trendy hipster douche who was influenced by the real hipster douche. I mean, the hipster douche is a douche, but at least he has some cred and you don't have to be totally embarassed while listening to him. You, however, you make shitty watered down ultra-douchey top 40 ready faggy suedo indie-by-way-of-mtv "dance punk" that is nothing but a poorly manufactured clone.
Knowing you though and your wide encompassing music taste (that is your music taste encompasses some good bands and a lot of shitty fucking garbage that your precious magazines are whoring out to the public at the moment) you probably like the Killers. So you know what. Here's another analogy. The Clash are awesome right? right? right. And the Sex Pistols are kinda cool, yeah? Well, you're Good Charlotte.
And I honestly mean that. With all my heart.
Anyway, congrats dude. You namedropped Husker Du and the Ramones. You're soooOOoOOOOoo000OO0oo0ooo0OOooOo0o cool. You obviously know your stuff when it comes to music, you "true punk".
I apologize for using the word "douche" so much. Douche is such a lame and overused insult, but for some reason I felt it appropriate.

Your "observations" are nothing special, nothing new, and nothing that hasn't been said before a billion times. You are me at 15. Back when I first started listening to all "indie" and underground shit and was all excited that I was finally listening to "good" music, I made the same observations as you, and shared those observations with others in an attempt to fit in and seem like I knew what "real" music was. You know what though? Then I stopped being 15. That ended all my little transparent cocksmoker attempts to fit in. I realized this: who gives a shit? Do I give a shit if some kid listens to shit music? No! No I dont!!! The only reason to make such pointless "observations" is to prove something. I mean, come on. Newsflash: Kid with scenester emo hair listens to music I don't like. I mean, wow. None of us on this message board had any idea.
However, at least now I know that you like Husker Du and the Ramones! So now I think you're cool!
And I don't get it. Do you just go to sections in music to stand around artists that you read are cool so you can look all hip and then get mad at people who look at artists you read are not cool?
"To paraphrase: I'm definitely NOT a punk, but the kids with the emo haircuts certainly aren't ones either."
Right, I forgot. You're a "mod". If you're so not waving any punk flag you shouldn't give a shit whether some kid with an emo haircut is a "true punk" or not. Do kids with emo haircuts even try to pass themselves off as punks? Why are you so enraged by these people? If you didn't suck horribly, you wouldn't be. So the only reason I can think of why you'd be so enraged by misguided kids going through a phase is because you suck horribly.

My wittle Bwett is growing up. :p
I don't doubt he likes those artists. It's not about that. It's not even about his delusions of being like "that guy from High Fidelity." It's about me pissing on Brett. Because I love it so. And so does he. You wouldn't understand, it's really perverted.
and I pwned the fuck out of you, Brett. Come on. Acknowledge it. I may have been soft on you lately, but thats just because I think you suffered enough during this classic episode of me pwning your balls off.

damn, I was in the punk section of HMV looking for some Rancid cd's!!!11Wo0t, and well anyway, there was this older nerdy guy looking at the Ramones cd's thinking he was all like, punk you know? Dude had his shirt tucked in and was wearing Tommy Hilfiger jeans. Yeah, he knows his punk for sure.
Yep, I think that was my post of the year for that year.(y)

P.S. - It's also a pretty sad state of affairs when the likes of Iggy Pop get found in the "Pop/Rock" section at said store, yet somehow Good Charlotte is in the "Punk" section. Gimme a break.
true.
I've officially given up on Punk music.
Even "good" punk music such as the Misfits and NY Dolls.
It's all pretty damn boring and no longer suits my carefree attitudes in life.
Also - I dislike record stores and the idea of digging through cds. (lb)
a) I'm spoiled by itunes b) I don't like spending my free time there I'd rather go snoot around for sneakers at crappy discount stores.

The real reason Brett was "enraged" (http://www.beastieboys.com/bbs/showpost.php?p=1179217&postcount=16937)Let's be honest, Knuckles owned it.
