I think I'd be fairly forgiving. It's sort of romantic, getting AIDS off a loved one, innit?

Men who are circumcised have a dramatically lower rate of HIV infection than those who are not, according to new studies in Africa and India, suggesting that the ancient surgical procedure may play a role in helping prevent the spread of the deadly virus.

Yah, I saw that. The results were very very dubious. There was very little done to show a causal link, and no reason to suppose it wasn't a social phenomenon. It could just be that people who are brought up in strictly religious social groups are significantly less likely to bang AIDS infected hookers, for example.

And if I got a full on positive from my full on positive long-term partner, I'd never have to buy a condom again!

it really depends. If I'd been married for several years, and then they got it from someone else and passed it on I'd be really pissed with them and probably give the same response as ms.peachy. If I'd only been with them a short time I would be more angry with myself.

I'd go through a range of emotions begining with disbelief, anger, homicidal, afraid, and at some point give in to the fact that that had become my destiny. sucks... If it were the person I'm with now I'd stay with them and have as meaningful a relationship with them as I could. Not b/c I couldn't be with anyone else, but b/c that's gotta be "bonding material."
Facing the question of your mortality can be harsh, but what can you do? you're going to die someday. I'd rather face it with all my strength and go as peacful as possible. "Take it like a buddha!" :o

I don't get the response well if they didn't have it before they were with me...I'd torture/kill/ mame them...whatever kinda thing.

cause the thing is they could have crontracted it years before they met you, not know that they have it and unknowingly pass it on. So even if you've been with some one for 5 years and they've tested negative in the past, and suddenly they test positive...it still doesn't mean they didn't contract it 6-10 year ago before you started your 5 year relationship.

I'd be chill about it and we'd deal with it. together. we're all gonna fucking die anyway it really doesn't matter how.

well, the two generic responses seem to be

a) something "hilarious" that the responder wouldnt actually do

b) something extreme that the responder wouldnt actually do

So I would do a combination thereof. Some kind of Kill The Infector party with Lionel Ritchie hosting it.

Kid Presentable
04-11-2006, 06:04 PM
I've heard it's actually very hard to contract. The one person I know who got it was gay. And on smack.

It's pretty sad, but he's accepted it, I think.

Yeah, you can try that. I'm just going off what medical professionals have told me. The most likely scenarios for contracting the disease are intra-veinous drug use, and anal sex.

also how do you know that you won't (unwittingly of course) give your partner AIDS?

Well obviously, I'm being a wee bit facetious. But I really don't believe it ever will. We've talked about this. He travels a LOT for business, usually in Eastern Europe. He's told me the stories of going into hotels in Tashkent and Almaty and such, and seeing the women in the lobby hanging about, and the Russian mob 'minder' around who will be happy to introduce Western businessmen to them, you know? He has his opportunities. But he's not interested in getting involved in that business. I've told him, heaven forbid he ever has a moment of weakness, I can forgive anything except a failure to protect himself - and, by extension, me and our child. I really don't think he would ever do it, though. He thinks about things too much.

obviously it would be an accident... condoms are not infallible.
it could also be you who has the affair, or the steamy night of extra-marital sex where the condom slips off. never say never ms. p!

really, it could happen to anyone.... and i'll make you all a cup of tea.

Right now all that's on my horizon is dirty nappies, midnight feeds and slobbing around the house in tracksuits. How steamy is THAT, baby?!

Some interesting info here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HIV#Transmission on that.

Basically saying that for unprotected vaginal sex with an infected person the transmission rate is 1/1000 for a woman and 1/2000 for a guy.

For anal sex more like 1/200.

If im understanding this right anyway

Kid Presentable
04-12-2006, 10:58 AM
Yeah, and Roosta needs to realise that he doesn't know many of that 3 million he quoted.

Actually, I read a short story about two kids who get HIV, and neither knows who gave it to who. They decide to just accept their fate and be thankful to die together. I'd like to think I'd just do that. After getting angry, I think I'd start to miss Madam Smellybottom.

Yes. I remember talking with my Dad (who was an M.D.) before he passed away about aids. I had always been under the impression that if you had unprotected sex with someone who had AIDs it was pretty much garunteed that you would contract it. and he said that was not nessarily true. there were many documented cases where a partner never contracted the disease even thought they had had unprotected sex while the person was infected. but yes anal sex was a much higher risk because of tears in the anal wall from penetration. and of course sharing needles is a sure fire way of passing it on...though I do have a family member who was a junkie and he shared- he cought other things, but amazingly not AIDS.

anyway this is not to say, don't wear condoms. It's just to say that there are certain conditions that have to be present in order to sucessfully pass the disease on.
