SOHH.com has just learned that Proof of D12 was shot and killed in the 8 mile section of Detroit early this morning.
Though details are still sketchy, sources say Proof (born DeShaun Holton) was shot at a night club called Triple C's on 8 mile and Gratiot around 4.am. A SOHH.com source in Detroit revealed that another person was struck during the shooting. Bizarre of D12 is rumored to be the second victim. It's uncertain whether he was with Proof at the time of the incident. Word is Biz has yet to be accounted for. According to preliminary reports, multiple batteies were found at the scene of the crime. Police have speculated this may be the work of Assault & Batteries Crew, who D12 had a beef with. Rapper Cage, who alledgedly goes by the alias 'Duracell' is a suspect, Police say. Reports say the second victim remains in critical condition. His name has yet to be released. Proof was taken to St. John Holy Cross Hospital while the second victim was taken to St. John Hospital. According to police, both victims succumbed to a gunshot wound to the head.

Rapper Proof of the hip-hop group D12 was shot and killed this morning at an illegal afterhours club on Eight Mile, police said.
Proof, whose real name is Deshaun Holton, was dead on arrival at Conner Creek Medical Center in Detroit, according to a spokeswoman for St. John Health System. He was 32.
Proof was among the most pivotal players on the Detroit hip-hop scene, and revered as one of the best freestyle MCs in the city. He befriended Eminem long before he was a houshold name, and was a nearly constant presence as the rapper rose to superstardom. He toured with Eminem as his on-stage hype man, was a member of his group D12, had a bit role in the "8 Mile" movie and served as the best man at his wedding in January.
An unidentified 35-year-old man, who was shot along with Proof, is in critical condition at Detroit's St. John Hospital.
Police were called to the shootings around 5 a.m, following reports of a fight and shots fired. Police have speculated the murderers may be a part of Detroit clique 'Assault & Batteries' after a AA battery was found in Proof's chest.
The club where it occurred is called 3C, and it's at 8 Mile near Hayes. The club isn't illegal but it was operating illegally after hours.
This is the second shooting involving Eminem's entourage in three months.
Another Eminem pal and rapper Obie Trice was shot and wounded New Year's Eve while driving along the Lodge Freeway.
Anyone with information on the shootings is asked to call Detroit Police at 313-596-2260.
this is nuts. details are sketchy so far but they found a battery in his chest or something?

So now, apart from Eminem, D12 officially has zero talent whatsoever. Of all the dudes in that group...damn.
As for the other dude that got hit, Bizarre wasn't even at the club, so no such luck.
Guess Em's got a new topic to rap about for the next 5 or 6 years, though.

Yeah, very clever. I noticed the pun but it wasn't intentional, and it certainly wasn't the gist of my post. And only Qdrop would be sad enough to take the trouble to post and say he DIDN'T find it funny. But anyway like someone else said I am speculative about all this battery shit, it sounds kind of like a bad joke (and the kinda controversial hoax that Slim and D-12 might try and pull). I kinda hope it aint true, I got to like Proof for his parts on the Up In Smoke Tour DVD which I got quite recently, and it seems like him and Marshall are (were) real good buddies.

Yeah it was. But I don't think that argument could hold up to the extent that he would shoot one of Slim's best buddies. If so that man better start hiding, I can't imagine this going unavenged to be honest. It's a total injustice and as far as I can see Proof was loved by most of Detroit.

He was asked on WKCR around the time the Slim Shady EP first came out what he thought of Eminem and he said he felt like he was biting his style.
If you do listen to Slim Shady EP and some of the older Cage singles...theres some kind of similar stuff, but its not close enough of a comparison that I would say its obvious he stole his style. Either way, neither of them sound anything like they did at that time now.

Police: Dead rapper fired first shot
Proof was one of Eminem's closest friends
Wednesday, April 12, 2006; Posted: 1:18 p.m. EDT (17:18 GMT)
DETROIT, Michigan (AP) -- Rapper Proof fired the first bullet in a Detroit nightclub shootout that ended his life, police said Wednesday.
The bullet hit Keith Bender, 35, in the head, critically injuring him early Tuesday at the C.C.C., a bar in a strip of businesses along Eight Mile, the road made famous in Eminem's movie of the same name.
Proof, whose real name is Deshaun Holton, was taken to a nearby outpatient treatment center by a private car, where he was pronounced dead.
Detectives are currently trying to figure out who shot Proof, said Detroit police spokesman Sgt. Omar Feliciano. He said his office was told by homicide detectives that Proof fired the first shot at Bender.
Feliciano said no further information has been released.
Proof, 32, was a member of the rap group D12 and was the best man in Eminem's January wedding. Eminem was seldom seen in public without Proof.
Police said officers responding to 911 calls about 4:30 a.m. Tuesday found the bar empty when they arrived.
Bender also was taken to a hospital by a private car.
Police Chief Ella Bully-Cummings said Tuesday that detectives don't know what Proof was doing at the bar, which was operating outside of its licensed hours.
Investigators face a unique challenge because no victims were present at the crime scene, Bully-Cummings said.
Police have said that an argument between two parties at the club escalated into gunfire.

A 28-year-old man suspected of fatally shooting rapper Proof of D12 turned himself in today (April 12).
Mario Etheridge, 28, of Detroit is being detained by the police for allegedly shooting the rapper during an altercation inside of the C.C.C. nightclub.
Etheridge was also a bouncer at the C.C.C. nightclub. Police said he is a relative of Keith Bender Jr., the bouncer who was allegedly shot by Proof during the fight, which took place around 4:30 am Tuesday.
Police said Proof, born Deshaun Holton, pistol-whipped and shot Bender during the fight. Etheridge allegedly open fire on the rapper, striking him four times in the head and chest.
Authorities are still investigating the incident, but police said the 28-year-old was cooperating with authorities.
Bender, a former Sgt. in the United States Army, is on life support in critical condition.
