View Full Version : The only differance between Ghostface and Raekwon...
Qdrop

...is the tone of thier voice.
everything else is identical- flow/style/lyrical content.
don't get me wrong, they are fuckin sick MC's.
but, you know...i'm just sayin.
it's fun to bring back debates from 1996....

he certainly is getting alot of press for that anyway...

Ghost is waaaaay more charismatic on the mic. And Rae's flow tends to be more choppy and bouncy, like a combination of stiff jabs and hooks. Ghost is more like uppercuts and ear biting.
Rae doesn't sing or pretend to cry when he raps either.

I'd rather listen to Ghost, RZA, GZA, ODB, Meth, Inspektah Deck, and Masta Killa before Rae, easily, especially ghost. he has such better lyrical content, and better flow, and is about 100 times more clever and creative.
I've never liked Raekwon

MOA, yes. I agree that the album Cuban Linx is better than anything RZA (as a solo artist), ODB, Meth, Inspectah Deck or Masta Killa could ever accomplish. but i would say RZA and Ghost had just as much to do with it being a good album, if not more, than Rae did. And if you're going by an album by album basis, Ghost still wins. notice when ghost and rza disappeared (immobilarity, lex diamonds bullshit) his albums ate an incredible amount of dick.

i like how you completely ignored the rest of my posts, man. you know, the parts that actually explained shit. but i guess you had pretend they didn't exist since so you could get your little smart-ass remarks out of the way.
ANYWAY, if you were going by how wu tang sounded in 95-97 i could see where you're coming from, they did have a very similar style, Ghost's delivery wasn't completely developed yet. but from 'The W' on, no way.
There is NO WAY you could say that his parts on "I can't go to sleep," "the jump off," "Gravel Pit," "Jah World," "One," "Saturday Night," hell, 95% of his shit since 2000, sounds like Rae. Fat Boy hasn't switched up his flow since '95, and my point still stands about his albums. but no, you werent paying attention to that, you were to eager to make your little smug comments.. "great job auton" and shit.
and you're even crazier by saying he sounds like cappa. it's like saying meth sounds like streetlife. listen to cappa's verse on triumph, then listen to rae's. listen to their verses on supreme clientele and fishscale... they have a completely different approach to rapping (cappa's being much more freestyle and free-association-based), and their voices don't even sound the same.

well, unlike you...i've made far more technical comparisons by adjusting pitch/speed levels on their voices.
Ghost on -8 sounds identical to Rae.

First off this is such a silly thread(how it has became well yo momma and cosmo too). Qdrop we cool, but you are wrong on so many levels. The main thig is if your going to talk about how you slow and speed up there vocals and they sound the same then thats false. Alot of things sped up sound the same (let us not forget the "chimpmunk" production that was the hotness for a bit) not to mention songs that have been screwed and chopped. Just listen to the artist voices and Lil Wayne all of a sudden sounds like Mike Jones. WHO!? Mike Jones.
Second off, the styles of Ghost and Rae were, at one point similar, but even then the fact remains that you could tell who was rapping. You have to be pretty tone deaf not to tell that there is a diffrent person rapping on songs such as Verbal Intercourse, Ice Cream, Gullotines. Then not even that look at Camay(same as Daytona Rae more laid back lower voice while Ghost is more sacastic then high pitched when he gets to the you sexxxy muthfucka god damn..), Daytona 500(where Rae's is more laid back and even boring while Ghost is more upbeat and rapid), and so forth. The only song that I can think of where they sound the same is Rainy Dayz and 260. Even then you can tell the diffrences in there voice. Ghostface's voice when he raps is very sarcastic and very smooth. He has a higher pitched voice then Rae. Rae's is heavier, darker more gritty then Ghost which makes sense given Rae's topics of choice. Ghost is also empahizes his lines more while Rae just continues all the way through.Although you have said that the tone of their voice is diffrent, the fact is the voice has alot to do with such things as syntax, purnication etc. So although I know you said that's the only diffrences I don't feel you empahized that thought enough. The voice has alot to with what my next point is.
If we going to speak about style and topic diffrences (in terms of voice) the fact is that Rae is, like Auton said, the same as he was in 95 (which could be both good and bad) the same flow, the same sound etc. Ghost style has improved and is more verstile then Rae. I really don't see Rae doing any songs such as Whipe You With a Strap, Underwater, Child's Play etc. The only times you hear Rae even attempt to get that type of flow on is when paired with Ghost (The Sun for example). Ghost is a far more deeper rapper then Rae anybody that said otherwise is blind to the fact and thinks that Rae's two other solos are classics compared to Ghost's catlouge. Also although everyone jocks OB4CL, the fact is that the LP is very one dimensional in terms of flow, content and overal production (except for a few spots here or there). I know this is also one of the reason why many consider this the GOAT in terms of Wu-Lp's but this could also show a lack of depth which such duds as the Lex Diamonds and Immobilraity Lps show. Ghost has always shown to be the most verstile of all the Wu given that his Lp's are more then one dimesnional (songs such as Le Chercez la Ghost compared to Nutmeg compared to Child's Play or Clips of Doom compared to Be Easy compared to Underwater or even Back Like That). This has always been why Ghost is favored more then Rae, he is a much deeper artist then Rae is. Listen to Rae on Fishscale and see how his flow and content almost is the same on all 4(?) songs he is on. To me, Ironman>OB4CL when it comes to verstility (although I would agree with OB4CL being more consient then Ironman but that's your taste)
Ghost overal in voice, content delivery is diffrent then Rae. Speeding or slowing down is null and void given what I just mentioned about the prodcution chimpmunks and screwed and chopped. Now to say that Rae and Cappadonna sound the same is flawed. How can you say that someone whose flow is more Spoken Word if anything and more sharp (his voice is raspy and hits a lil too hard on some songs) sounds like Rae. If thats the case then why isn't Cappadonna consider by Wu fans as one of the best (since Rae is and if Ghost sounds like Rae then Cappa should be up there too). It's not just bout the fact of lyrics (since Cappa basically follows the same formula as Rae in terms of grit) but it's the fact that there deleivery and styles are way diffrent. Sorry Q, but you and whoever else agrees with this theory are wrong. All the examples that have been given by Auton, myself and others and the fact that a decent idea in temrs of discussion has became a childish attack on someone who has tried to be cilival with his debate is flawed. You, at least in this thread, are doing just like those you hate, trust me if anybody knows about that shit it's me. Go pick up some new Ghost and then if you got moeny you want to waste pickup the Lex Diamonds or Bulletproof Wallets LPs

changing the speed lowers or raises the pitch of the voice (the speed, the tone).
and as i stated:
the only differance between Ghost and Raekwon...is the tone of thier voice.
thier flow is still virtually identical. the syncopation, the double timing....virtualy identical.
so, by adjusting the pitch/speed...i balanced out what i thought to be the only significant differance.
pretty simple.

yeah, jesus christ guys.
obviously you CAN tell the differance to a fuckin degree.
the point of my original statement was to make use literay license and say that i thought they were extremely similar.
when people said Bush and Gore were the same, they were not saying that they were virtually fucking identical, they were making a statement to thier political similarities...
get it?
Ghostface's voice when he raps is very sarcastic and very smooth. He has a higher pitched voice then Rae. ^ okay, i can't quite make out what you are trying to say...but i'm guessing it's along the lines of "you're wrong, and anyone that thinks you are right is also wrong...because your opinions are just better".
and then something about me being childish because i attacked Auton? or are you accusing Auton of being childish first?
i would hope so, having to only direct you to post #17 in which Auton chimed in with his abbrasive comment and flipped the mood of the entire thread.

so, by adjusting the pitch/speed...i balanced out what i thought to be the only significant differance.
pretty simple.
yeah, jesus christ guys.
obviously you CAN tell the differance to a fuckin degree.
the point of my original statement was to make use literay license and say that i thought they were extremely similar.
when people said Bush and Gore were the same, they were not saying that they were virtually fucking identical, they were making a statement to thier political similarities...
get it?
yeah, i already mentioned alot of this:
^ okay, i can't quite make out what you are trying to say...but i'm guessing it's along the lines of "you're wrong, and anyone that thinks you are right is also wrong...because your opinions are just better".
and then something about me being childish because i attacked Auton? or are you accusing Auton of being childish first?
i would hope so, having to only direct you to post #17 in which Auton chimed in with his abbrasive comment and flipped the mood of the entire thread.
we should probably let this die now.
it was meant to be a minor thread, making a quick opinionated statement for others to comment on...and then be done with it...
not spiral into an over-annalytical slug fest like this.
Fuck Q, you should start posting in Beastie General. It would be genius.(y)
