I just had an idea to make a CD for my car using only space-themed songs. I came up with this very short list of songs I enjoy and also have already. Gimme some more ideas!

Rocketman – Elton John

Space Oddity - Bowie

Spaceboy - Pumpkins

Rocket - Pumpkins

Intergalactic - Yeah

Assignment in Space with Rip Foster – Hayden (Canada! Ya Heard?!?!)

Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots – Flaming Lips

Spaceship – Kanye

Starboy…and the Captain of Outer Space!
They fight the mighty fight in the night
Downing any evil that’s in sight
They're rascally badgers of medium girth.
They're saving the planet and also the Earth
But beware my heroes of the evil down there…
Of Washington, Picasso and Annie Oakley over there
The three of them are evil and evil are all three, but they…
Want To Destroy It! (But they should not be let) They want to destroy it! (But not allowing them…)
Starboy…and the Captain of Outer Space! (Starboy!) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c1_MBoqG9JU)

Clutch- Spacegrass

here's some lyrics for ya.

Dodge Swinger 1973, Galaxy 500,
All the way stars' green, gotta go.
Dodge Swinger 1973, top down, chassis low,
Panel dim, light drive, Jesus on the dashboard.
T-minus whenever it feels right, Galaxy 500.
Planets align, a king is born.

Whenever it feels right
Whenever it feels right
Whenever it feels right
Whenever it feels right

Dodge Swinger 1973, top down, chassis free,
Buzz Aldrin, Armstrong, or maybe just me.
Don't worry, it's coming.
Don't worry, it's coming.
Jesus on the dashboard.

Whenever it feels right
Whenever it feels right
Whenever it feels right
I turn on the radio.

Hey kid, are you going my way?
Hop in, we'll have ourselves a field day.
We'll find us some spacegrass,
Lay low, watch the universe expand.
Skyway, permanent Saturday.
Oh, by the way, Saturn is my rotary.
Hop in, it'll be eternity
Till we make it to M83.

Once around the Sun, cruising, climbing.
Jupiter cyclops winks at me, yeah, he knows who's driving.
Hit neutral in the tail of a comet.
Let the vortex pull my weight.
Push the seat back a little lower.
Watch light bend in the blower.
Planets align.
A king is born.
Dodge Swinger.
Jesus on the dashboard.

Whenever it feels right
Whenever it feels right
Whenever it feels right

"Countdown" on Rush's Signals (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000001EST/ref=m_art_pr_10/103-1162775-5488642?%5Fencoding=UTF8&v=glance&n=5174). About the space shuttle (not Challenger though).

Here's some semi-related science fiction music:

* I, Robot (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000002VC5/qid=1144910369/sr=1-1/ref=sr_1_1/103-1162775-5488642?s=music&v=glance&n=5174) by The Alan Parsons Project, especially the tracks "I, Robot", "Nucleus", and "The Voice". These are pretty long songs so the little 30 second clips don't help much. :( Audio geeks click here (http://classicrecords.com/catalog/store/detail.cfm?sku=HDAD-2003) (wtf is an HDAD (http://classicrecords.com/)?). "The Rise Of Machine and The Decline Of Man". Deeeeep...........

* "Red Barchetta" on Rush's Moving Pictures (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000001ESP/qid=1144913466/sr=1-1/ref=sr_1_1/103-1162775-5488642?s=music&v=glance&n=5174). Cars are outlawed now but one guy secretly takes his uncle's and gets chased by the authrorities.

* Track 1, which is the whole first side of 2112 (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000001ESF/ref=m_art_li_0/103-1162775-5488642?%5Fencoding=UTF8&v=glance&n=5174) (yep, Rush again :o ). Music is outlawed by government run by monk-ish dudes, until kid finds this thing with strings that when "he touches them, give forth a sound". Monk dudes find out, get pissed and fun anti-establishment stuff follows.

* Pink World (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000005RW7/qid=1144916255/sr=2-2/ref=pd_bbs_b_2_2/103-1162775-5488642?s=music&v=glance&n=5174) by Planet P Project. The entire album is sci-fi (just like Rush's Grace Under Pressure).

How come modern musicians don't tell stories like these anymore?:(

FunkyHiFi

Forgot a couple, though they're stretching it:

* Spaced Out: The Best of Leonard Nimoy and William Shatner (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0000089JE/ref=pd_sim_m_2/103-1162775-5488642?%5Fencoding=UTF8&v=glance&n=5174). The music isn't always exactly spacey, but the "musicians" are from outer space....sort of.

* Space Age Pop Music (http://www.spaceagepop.com/index.htm) Dick Hyman (sound familiar?) is one of these artists. Also, this music is where certain modern groups get some of their ideas, Stereolab for one.

It drives you crazy if you listen all at once, but Space Capades (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000002TZL/ref=m_art_pr_7/104-6366837-0160738?%5Fencoding=UTF8&v=glance&n=5174) from Rhino's lounge series reminds me of the Jetsons and retro space age furniture and what not.

I own this too. (y) And three others in that series (the "Tiki Sampler" is the slickest/best packaged CD I own, outside AND inside, though the ones I see now don't have the bamboo-textured cover).

The Ultralounge (http://ultralounge.com/) site is really cool too. And the "Hey Batender" link pulls up a really neat drink technology thingy. :)
