What a let down.

Yeah...:(

I've picked up quite a few comedy records that were rumored to be the infamous sample. Documad even asked Yauch about it when he popped on a while ago. And here is what Yauch said. (http://www.beastieboys.com/bbs/showpost.php?p=925711&postcount=101) But I've had no luck.

Beastiemania used to have it listed as a Redd Foxx sample but that is not it.

A while ago I contacted the Richard Pryor message board and had the clip posted on their board, but the hardcore Richard fans said it was not him.

Someone somewhere told me it was Winston Churchill so I'm sure that's it, or was that a dream, or was I just running off about shit I have no clue about? Yeah that's it.

...and someone on the Blowfly board said they didn't think it was him. But it sounds a lot like his voice and the studio-party atmosphere he sometimes had going.

to be honest I think that this will get filed under the never going to happen, inbetween the 'aqua sessions' and the unheard pauls boutique outtakes'

Well...I completely blew it.

Pootytang and I actually talked with Horovitz for a few minutes on the streets earlier in the day yesterday. And 5 minutes after we walked away I had to kick myself in the ass for forgetting to ask if he knew who where the mashed potato sample came from.

I guess there's always next time...

*Bump

Pootytang had the opportunity to talk to Horovitz before the Seattle gig last Friday. And he asked him about the sample.

I talked to Pooty immediately after his convo with Horovitz and Pooty thought he said it was a comedian by the name of Manfred, Monfred, or something kinda like that.

I tried a few searches but came up empty. This is pretty consistent with what Yauch said on here a while back. Yauch said it was something like Montel.

But still no luck.

Ok, here is the scoop...

I asked em where the sample came from and he told me the name of the comedian but I can't remember his exact name. I believe it was something like Clarence Manfre. I really wish someone would of had a pen so I could have written this info down. I'm kinda pissed at myself for not remembering, but then again, I was talking to Ad fucking Rock. I know other people were listening to our conversation and they can't even remember the name he provided.

Hmmm...I wonder if this Clarence has anything to do with the PB "Is your name Michael Diamond? No mine's Clarence" line...hmmm?

hmmmm..

look up clarence reid and his alter ego "Blowfly"

http://www.blowflymusic.com/

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blowfly_(artist)

Many of Blowfly's songs featured his style of talking in rhyme which can be considered a primitive form of rapping. Many of his songs have also been sampled in numerous hip hop songs. After rap music hit the mainstream with Sugarhill Gang's "Rapper's Delight", Reid recorded a profane version of "Rap Dirty" titled "Blowfly's Rapp [sic]". The song was a hit and helped the album, Blowfly's Party reach #26 on Billboard magazine's Black Albums chart and #82 on the Billboard Top 200 in 1980.

Samples of Blowfly and Clarence Reid songs have appeared on hit albums by the Jurassic 5, Wu Tang Clan, DJ Quik, Method Man & Redman, DMX, Beyonce, Puff Daddy, Scarface, Slim Thug, Ice Cube, Da Brat and many, many more.

I went that route already, checking stuff and posting on the Blowfly message board. No go.

Very promising lead, but it doesn't pan out.

I second this...

There have been quite a few people who have popped on here in the half dozen or so threads about this topic. Many thought they knew the answer, but none have panned out.

I bought the Redd Foxx and Robin Harris cds. I've been to the Richard Pryor messageboard. And still nothing.

The closest hint we have is Yauch's "montel" thought and Pooty's shitty memory of Horovitz saying something like "clarence manfre"...:D

Once again, Pooty shoots an airball in a clutch situation.

He should be ashamed for letting the team down.

I say we ban his ass and deport him!!!!!!!!
