i'm making a CD for my friend of the best Beastie Boys songs any suggestions?
i'm trying to lure him into becoming a Beastie Boy fan but he's 13 and doesn't know much about them. i'm gonna keep it rap cuz he's a rap lover but he likes the mainstream stuff. so any suggestions?

He's 13, so no swearing... no nothing innapropriate... try giving him, i guess instant death would be the only suitable one... then again that might make him sad... maybe he's not ready for the powerful surge that is beastie?

A 13-year old cant handle swears? I bet he was swearing when he was 8! Seriously, whats so bad about swear words anyway? I mean they're just words. Were past all that explicit lyrics stuff back in the sixties(?), you know where they wanted to ban seven or nine words from being used in songs. Instead of trying to stop words, why not take care of the real problems in the world today? Like world hunger or poverty.
Oops, kinda slipped off from the original post, oh well.

I feel ya on the kiddies...up to now, I've been skipping the lines in the songs I know are inappropriate. But, with a 13 year old, maybe it would first help to qualify what you consider to be inappropriate (?) Yeah, some of the older stuff was pure party, but later on, their music took a turn and for me and my monsters, as long as the message is understood, then the swearing takes a back seat. I'd rather them hear the message in bodishattva vow, sure shot, root down, skills to pay the bills, etc. and not make the swearing a focal point. It's hard with kids....but hey, it's just a thought.....good luck :)

Since there's another thread going on about the Root Down EP, maybe put some live stuff on there too? Like "Time to Get Ill" or "Flute Loop"? (Although, er, those have "swears"...)

Any Beastie Boys compilation is incomplete without Boomin' Granny.
Get it over and buy him the censored version of Solid Gold Hits.

1.) "Shake Your Rump"
2.) "Johnny Ryall"
3.) "Jimmy James"
4.) "So What'cha Want?"
5.) "Remote Control"
6.) "Skills To Pay The Bills"
7.) "Live At P.J.'s"
8.) "Paul Revere"
9.) "So What'cha Want? (Remix with Cypress Hill)"
10.) "No Sleep 'Till Brooklyn"
11.) "Sabotage"
Those are the Beastie Boys songs I put on a mix CD I gave to Skye Sweetnam for her 18th birthday back in May. I recommend using those songs. Also add "An Open Letter To NYC", "Hey Ladies", "Sure Shot", "Intergalatic", "Body Moving", "Alive", "Shadrach", and of course, "(You've Gotta) Fight For Your Right (To Party)".
