every now and then, I sift through my cd collection and weed out the shit I ain't listen to in a long while and sell it back at the local record shoppe for some quick $$$.

however, there are some albums that survive off the strength of one song.

so, what albums can you name that- while overall are not terrible- would be pretty fucking lame if not for that one track.

I'm saying DangerDoom. The only track I always jump to is "Old School" featuring Kweli.

now you go.

Boy, where does one start.....the first album that I thought of was "Urban Hymns" by The Verve and Bittersweet Symphony.

Then automatically every album put out by Oasis.

next......

I venture that Bada Bing, Mince Meat, The Mask and ATHF all do a better job than that Kweli song.

edit: and Benzi Box.

For me, it would be Illmatic, and N.Y State of Mind. I find that album a little overrated. I really have to be in the mood for it. But NY State of Mind is the shit either way.

the Mask is a close second.

something about the energy on old school that never seems to re-emerge anywhere else on that album.

plus kweli's verse is choice

"seems in order to spit it dope
you gotta have a criminal past
that's similar to the cast
or diff'rent strokes."

Yeah, and he mentions the Scooby Doo sample Doom flipped on 'Hey!' I think.

Doom's opening rhyme is also nice

"We'll be right back after these messages
Fellas grab your nutsacks, chicks squeeze your breasteses."

John Wesley Harding's The Confessions of St. Ace is a good album, but the song "I'm Wrong About Everything" (http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&token=ADFEAEE57F18D249A97320C5903C40CCB269A329D94E FB87126E495AD1A926499E0C74E80BA695C9AEFB7CAB7BAFFF 28E85B0FD9C8E65CF8DE764C40&sql=50:scz1z8oanyu5~T) is the reason to hang onto it. That song is fantastic.

Robbie Williams' Intensive Care. "Tripping" was the only highlight.

nah man Urban Hymns has, drugs don't work and lucky man. Also Richard Ashcroft the singer used to live round the corner from me.

Everything he does is a lowlight. Sorry al

Around the World, or Da Funk?

I have all sorts of issues with whats been said on this thread - for someone to say Oasis are one song album makers sounds like the ramblings of a deaf madman or woman. The first two albums are near perfect (if you like that sort of thing), no one song stands out or carries the album and the last two albums have had a few good songs on each.

As for Homework by Daft Punk, that album is a fuckin monster - its a complete work that just gets more and more insane.

And if tripping is the highlight of intensive care I dont want to hear the rest of the album

Protection by Massive Attack is an ok album but never quite recovers from the fact that the title track is amazing.

i always thought that was like saying the mondays are from manchester

when i was at sixth form college he played footie against us and the other college was from skem, also when we used to do the indie night at wigan pier on a wednesday, ashcroft used to frequent (pre verve, well famous verve anyways) and one of my mates copped off with a girl who used to hang around with him and all of his crew, and they were all from skem

Nah, Bolton originally. Live in Sale now

He is, I think it was the keyboard player (I can't remember) who lived around the corner from me, he went to withins school. But My mate says that ashcroft stayed with him a lot.

As far as I know they class themselves as being a wigan band

I knew it wouldn't be a popular choice, seeing how they've all have had a string of #1 charted & platinum selling releases. I wish I could change my thinking and hearing (because, afterall I purchased all of these discs) but it's just been the way the dice landed here at my casino (House Rules), these CD's have been getting less and less playing time at a rapid rate. Usually only dragged out for that one song once every three months or less.

hmmm i just think wigan sounded more exotic than skelmersdale (but then again who would actually own up to coming from Skem)

he was known as mad richard at the pier because him and all his mates used to shout sausage when certain tunes were on for some reason

no way. I pretty much despise most forms of dance music but this album is sweet. Apart from Around the World and Da Funk there's High Fidelity, Daftendirekt, Oh Yeah, Burnin' and even though it's not as good as the 7 minute version, the album version of Teachers is still ridiculously dope.

to a certain degree I think Gimmie Shelter carries Let It Bleed , but that's only because most of the tracks can be found in superior form on Get Yer Ya Ya's out.
