Whichever movie it was that produced the "say hello to my little friends" quote because that quote is part of the lexicon now. :)

..I probably should've put that instead of Bobby Deerfield.

For sheer ham value, I almost put Devil's Advocate on there. And I've never seen Scent of a Woman, but I've heard he's bad in that.

Mars... 50 Cent? Has 50 Cent ever been as good at his game as Pacino has in Dog Day Afternoon? You're just taking a position.

Ah -- I stand corrected. I didn't notice you had quoted.

Yeah. Scarface was more of a stunt than a performance. I liked the movie as a teenager, but it looks really bad nowdays.

I love him in that role, I found it hard to decide but chose Carlito in the end.

I don't know how Donnie Brasco got overlooked, but it might have been the review I read that said it was a "poor man's" Goodfellas!? Sopranos?

That's a shame. I'm glad I saw it in the theater. I can watch that movie over and over.

Yeah, the strained marriage thing is a wee bit forced, but that movie works. Pacino and Depp are awesome in it.

If you care, he's got a really nice, small part in Birdy, which is an awesome movie.

Dunno.

SPOILER: The movie ends with the implication that Lefty was killed after being "sent for". In real life, the FBI intercepted Lefty on the way to being killed and arrested him; Sonny Black, however, was "sent for" and subsequently murdered and the man who ordered Sonny's killing, Joe Massino, head of the Bonnano crime family, wasn't found guilty until 23 June 2005 when he got a life sentence for several crimes, including the murder of Sonny. Lefty was sentenced to 20 years in prison; he was paroled after serving 11 years, and then died of cancer two years later.

Oh, my. Tom Cruise was to have played Depp's part!

Definately "Dog Day Afternoon".

All of those are great movies, I was just blown away by Pacino's portrayal of a man on the complete edge yet all of it made sense in his character.

Plus the part where he steps out of the bank and yells, "Metallica, Metallica"!

Cool DDA trivia from the IMDB (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0072890/trivia) & John Wojtowicz (http://www.ejumpcut.org/archive/onlinessays/JC15folder/RealDogDay.html)himself.

A testament to the power of Al's acting,

After the initial title sequence (Elton John, "Amoreena") there is no background or incidental music on the soundtrack.

One thing about Al Pacino I've always noticed is he's a great "Shouter", he can really shout out a line. :D

Some folks don't dig the shouting actors, maybe thats why you don't like Al.

I've never seen Scarface, just that "little friends" clip.

Al Pacino is so great. I haven't seen all of his movies, but when I do, the character that he projects is what grabs me. It could be a shitty role with awful dialog & a horrible plot, but he would pull something from it and come across as being very real, with the voice and gestures and expressions. That's what's perfect about him.

Maybe it's an awful thing to you movie aficionados who know what color & make socks a guy wore in the director's cut of any given movie, but I've never seen Donnie Brasco or any of the Godfather movies > I. I'm okay with that. :)

My one friend, who is standing here waiting for me to leave for dinner, votes for Godfather II.

Night night.

Not at all; that's a pretty accurate assessment. (y)

I don't remember Dick Tracy; that might be one of his hammy-but-good roles. I remember Dustin Hoffman in that one better than anyone else.

I've never seen Al Pacino be funny. He's got wit, but I'm not sure he can do comedy.

Maybe if he's just playing the new heavy, he won't have to.
