So, I've got this project due in English tomarrow, and Im supposed to pick a song that has a attitude/opinion or description of war.. So naturally I picked something by the Beasties, Time to build on TT5B.

Here are the lyrics.. the lyrics I wanted to work with are Underlined...

"If you don't like the news then press eject
Baby Davis getting older can't take a rain check
It's time to let'em know what we expect
Stop building SUV's strung out on OPEC
Hold up wait up you know we come correct
You wanna change things up, well hey just get set
It's easier to sit back than stick out your neck
It's easier to break things than build it correct
We've got a president we didn't elect
The Kyoto treaty he decided to neglect
And still the US just wants to flex
Keep doin' that wop we gonna break our necks

It takes a second to wreck it
It takes time to build
You gots to chill

Hate filled people wanna keep us in check
Tearin' down each other is what they expect
If you want love well hey that's a bet
We've got to give before we can get
Waiting like a batter who is on deck
When it's time to wreck shop then shop I'll wreck
So let's calibrate and check our specs
We need a little shift on over towards the left
I don't really know but I suspect
I think it's due time that we inspect
How they get their information and their facts are checked
Another press conference someone's talking out their neck

It takes a second to wreck it
It takes time to build
You gots to chill

So step up to the window and place your bets
Is the US gonna keep breaking necks
Maybe it's time that we impeach Tex
And the military muscle that he wants to flex
By the time Bush is done what will be left
Selling votes like E-pills at the discotheque
Environmental destruction and the national dept
But plenty of dollars left in the fat war chest
What the real deal why you can't connect
Why you hating people that you never met
Didn't your mama teach you to show some respect?
Why not open your mind for a sec?

It takes a second to wreck it
It takes time to build
You gots to chill"

I was wondering what you guys thought about this song.. Because I have to pick some lyrics and explain what messege about war that they're trying to get across. I was wondering what you guys think about the lyrics and what not, Im just trying to get some ideas here.
If you guys have a better suggestion for a song or a lyric I'd be more then willing to take some help.

Here's the Kyoto Treaty (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/2233897.stm)

I was in high school and college before the internet...It must be really easy to research and write reports these days.

While that song certainly has an anti-war vibe, it doesn't really have an easy to define/explain opinion or description of war. The Kyoto treaty is about protecting the environment. The BBs are all over the place. Beasties tend to touch on something without beating you over the head so they're not the best band to choose if you're going to pick apart lyrics.

I'd go with an easier song that's all about war, but then I was always a good solid writer, but not a creative one. :p There are a ton of them. I suppose it's obvious to pick an anti-Vietnam one. But it might be funny to pick a pro WWI song. Or a civil war one. The Battle Hymn of the Republic never fails to make the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. Our national anthem is a War of 1812 song. :D

I once wrote a short review of Billy Joel's Goodnight Saigon. It's anti-Vietnam War but pro veteran. It's cheesy but moving, with the sound of helicopters and all that. I've seen it make grown men cry in concert.

I'm just throwing this out there... totally unrelated...

Come you masters of war
You that build all the guns
You that build the death planes
You that build the big bombs
You that hide behind walls
You that hide behind desks
I just want you to know
I can see through your masks

You that never done nothin'
But build to destroy
You play with my world
Like it's your little toy
You put a gun in my hand
And you hide from my eyes
And you turn and run farther
When the fast bullets fly

Like Judas of old
You lie and deceive
A world war can be won
You want me to believe
But I see through your eyes
And I see through your brain
Like I see through the water
That runs down my drain

You fasten the triggers
For the others to fire
Then you set back and watch
When the death count gets higher
You hide in your mansion
As young people's blood
Flows out of their bodies
And is buried in the mud

You've thrown the worst fear
That can ever be hurled
Fear to bring children
Into the world
For threatening my baby
Unborn and unnamed
You ain't worth the blood
That runs in your veins

How much do I know
To talk out of turn
You might say that I'm young
You might say I'm unlearned
But there's one thing I know
Though I'm younger than you
Even Jesus would never
Forgive what you do

Let me ask you one question
Is your money that good
Will it buy you forgiveness
Do you think that it could
I think you will find
When your death takes its toll
All the money you made
Will never buy back your soul

And I hope that you die
And your death'll come soon
I will follow your casket
In the pale afternoon
And I'll watch while you're lowered
Down to your deathbed
And I'll stand o'er your grave
'Til I'm sure that you're dead

if you're gonna pick a beastie song I would say "this government needs a tune up" (i'm not sure this track even has an official title" . its straight forward about the war and the bush administration. yauch posted the lyrics to the song here so you can search for that.

War-huh-YAH!
What is it good for
Absolutely...nothing
Uhuh..Uhuh
War-huh-YAH!
What it is good for
Absolutely nothing
Say it again yall
War-huh-look out!
What it is good for
Absolutely..nothing
Listen to me-AHHHHHHH!
War I despise

Cuz it means destruction of innocent lives
War means tears in thousands of mothers' eyes
When their sons go out to fight and lose their lives

I said..
War-huh-good god yall
What it is good for
Absolutely nothing
Say it again
(War)Lord, lord, lord
What is it good for
Absolutely nothing
Listen to me

(War)It aint nothing but a heartbreaker
(War)Friend only to the undertaker
War is the enemy of all mankind
The thought of war blows my mind
War has caused unrest within the younger generations
Induction then destruction
Who wants to die

War-huh-good god yall
What is it good for
Absolutely nothing
say it, Say It, SAY IT
War-huh(uhuh yah HUH)
What is it good for
Absolutely nothing
Listen to me
(War)It aint nothing but a heartbreaker
(War)Got one friend, thats the undertaker

War has shattered many young men's dreams
Made him disabled bitter and mean
Life is but too surely precious to spend fighting wars each day
War can't give life it can only take it away!

War-huh-good god yall
What it is a good for
Absolutely nothing
Say it again
War-Huh-Lord, lord, lord
What it is a good for
Absolutely nothing
Listen to me

(War)It aint nothing but a heartbreaker
(War)Friend only to the undertaker
Peace love and understanding tell me
Is there a place for these today
They say we must fight to keep our freedom
But Lord knows theres got to be a better way

War-huh-good god yall
What is it good for
You tell me
say it, say It, Say It, SAY IT
War-good god now-huh
What is it good for
Stand up and shout it (nothing)

Generals gathered in their masses,
just like witches at black masses.
Evil minds that plot destruction,
sorcerers of death's construction.
In the fields the bodies burning,
as the war machine keeps turning.
Death and hatred to mankind,
poisoning their brainwashed minds.
Oh lord, yeah!

Politicians hide themselves away.
They only started the war.
Why should they go out to fight?
They leave that role to the poor, yeah.

Time will tell on their power minds,
making war just for fun.
Treating people just like pawns in chess,
wait till their judgement day comes, yeah.

Now in darkness world stops turning,
ashes where the bodies burning.
No more War Pigs have the power,
Hand of God has struck the hour.
Day of judgement, God is calling,
on their knees the war pigs crawling.
Begging mercies for their sins,
Satan, laughing, spreads his wings.
Oh lord, yeah!

or..............................................

I can't remember anything
Can't tell if this is true or dream
Deep down inside I feel to scream
This terrible silence stops with me

Now that the war is through with me
I'm waking up, I cannot see
That there's not much left of me
Nothing is real but pain now

Hold my breath as I wish for death
Oh please God, wake me

Back in the womb it's much too real
In pumps life that I must feel
But can't look forward to reveal
Look to the time when I'll live
Fed through the tube that sticks in me
Just like a wartime novelty
Tied to machines that make me be
Cut this life off from me

Hold my breath as I wish for death
Oh please God, wake me

Now the world is gone I'm just one
Oh God help me
Hold my breath as I wish for death
Oh please God, help me

Darkness
Imprisoning me
All that I see
Absolute horror
I cannot live
I cannot die
Trapped in myself
Body my holding cell

Landmine has taken my sight
Taken my speech
Taken my hearing
Taken my arms
Taken my legs
Taken my soul
Left me with life in hell

I was all into All Lifestyles at first due to it's use of the Half-Life siren sample.

Then one day I listened to the words and I actually threw up in my mouth.

Yo I helped an old lady across the street
Use Dr. Scholls to control my stinky feet
Don't want to offend no-body
With a stench coming from my-body

All Lifestyles isn't one of my favorites compared to the rest of TT5B...but only that last couple of lines are on the "softer" side. Most of the lyrics are in the silly-cool-funny side. But...the chorus is on the softer/gentler side.

I'd rank All Lifestyles in the bottom-middle half of the album.

Ideas spark my hand grabs a pen
Sweeten up the sound let me get the right blend
Coming down the wire to the Neve mic pre
Nice up the sound for the A to D
I'm a Wonderama snake can winner
Bagel from Bob and a TV Dinner
I'm the one that one that dance contest
'Cause you know I dance the best
All you gotta do is do your thing you see
'Cause I don't give a fuck who you're supposed to be
My name is Adrock and I aim to please
And I gotta spread love in society

We gotta keep the party going on
All lifestyles, sizes, shapes, and form

What you saw what you heard
I get involved I might disturb
And if you want what's going down
You might just get that silky sound
So what'cha want? So what'cha need?
I've got the fonts you want to read
Get in the game you gotta scheme
All the same I've got the team
More new wave not OG
Walking down the block you say "Yo D!
When you coming out with the new CD
That spreads love in society?"

We gotta keep the party going on
All lifestyles, sizes, shapes, and form

Goto goto goto goto
Don't mess with crack or the baking soda
Whether in the high rise where you live like Roda
Or in the shack and you live like Yoda
Once again it's on like a brand new morn
Beatsie Beatsie Boys here to keep you all warm
All you spazzes and you freaks
Go and do your thing 'cause you're unique
If it don't hurt nobody else than
Don't be afraid to be yourself and
Special dedication and so on
to all lifestyles, sizes, shapes and forms
We gotta keep the party going on
All lifestyles, sizes, shapes, and form

Regardless of what the words say in 'All Lifestyles', the sound attracted me from the get go. One of the highlights in TT5B for me is the break in that track. Then Adrock comes in with the "What you saw what you heard
I get involved I might disturb ..." gives me goose bumps every time. :o

the kyoto protocol is an environmentally friendly treaty that china or japan-i cnat remember- created, and it had plans for reduction of use of fossil fuels and and major factors which contribute to the pollutio of our environment, and alot of countries signed it coz its a good thing, but there were a couple of dickheads like bush and howard who will not sign it no matter what, which is really stupid bcoz its helping the environment and OUR future but the selfish pricks dont care.
