View Full Version : Name My Baby
Congratulations to Yorkshire~Rose and her newbie--Ava.
I have a son coming along in late July. I want to name him Hank. Surprisingly my wife thinks it is a strong name. Everyone seems to think it is redneckified (my word). I love Hank Sr and also think of Hank Aaron, Hank Stram and Hank Hill.
What do you all think of Hank?
We are also kicking around Quinlin. I also like Atticus but my wife is not down.
I think if we name him Hank he can get Starbucks coffee and people will chant---HANK, HANK, HANK, HANK
Throw some names out and one may stick. Who knows?
I think this is how Tom & Katie came up with Suri. I think Turdbergler recommended it last month.

Henry was going to be our choice if it had turned out we were having a boy.
Earl is a good name.
Perfect but I would out an e on the end to add some flare. Earle.
Henry was going to be our choice if it had turned out we were having a boy.
Yep, we discussed Henry and calling him Hank. I think everyone would think Hank was a derivative of Henry.

Quinlin isn't a bad name, I kind of like the name Quinn also. I love Atticus....is there any writer, artist, anything that has inspired you and your wife that would be an interesting homage? I've said this 10,000 times on this board, but I'd like to name a boy, if I have one ever, Woodstock.
I can't imagine coming up with a name for a baby...my siblings and I are all named after other family members, grandparents mostly, so my parents had an easy time with that...I intend on helping to carry on that tradition. I'm gonna have like 10 kids I guess.

if it's a strong name you want, how about THOR (lb)
or charles, then you could call him chuck
My wife must not be a To Kill a Mockingbird fan. I have always liked Atticus Finch. She just won't budge. She is carrying the kid so I guess she has a say.

I thought about--Marley, Hendrix, Miles...... and then realized they all shot up heroin. I am a Picasso fan but that might be a burden on the kid.

Do you think my new state of Texas would be tolerant of Osama? They all drive big trucks and wear cowboy hats up here in the Northwest Texas high plains region.

We may have settled on a name. Hank was booted only because my wife kept harping on the fact that we have just moved to Texas. Hank from Texas may be a burden on the poor little guy.
We are heavily leaning toward-------------
Quinn Lessley Boyd
Lessley is my middle name and is handed down from a great great great grandfather named John Lessley. It is spelled that way because it was a last name. My father's middle name is Lessley and he would be disappointed if his namesake did not carry on the tradition. I was made fun of because punk kids thought it was girly. I usually punched them in the face and either got my arse kicked or ended it quick. We both have always liked the 1st name Quinn. It is Celtic/Gaelic meaning----wise.
OK, let me have it---what do you all think?

My wife loves the name Ian and I like Finnian so-----------
Finnian Lessley Boyd
We will call him Ian and Fin can be a nickname if he chooses.
The boy's name Finnian is of Irish and Gaelic origin, and its meaning is "fair."
The boy's name Ian is pronounced EE-an, EYE-an. It is of Scottish origin. Variant of John (Hebrew) "God is gracious."
Ok, let me have it. It has been hard but I think this one will stick.

okay so you asked for an honest opinion - finnian and boyd i think are beautiful.

I like Finn or Ian better than Finnian. I'm down with the familial names. I like the 4 letter, one-syllable last name.

I just went through all this naming my boy last year, man that was tough. the biggest thing with a name is having it roll off the tongue. the best name is a name that just fits together. I've always disliked my name because it sounds awkward when you say it together with my last name.
now trying to match up with the last name these come to mind:
Steven, Carleton, Christopher, Matthew, Jonathon... those are all pretty standard though.

Tell your wife, if she doesn't already know this, that there are three things she must do this week before the baby comes:
- get her legs waxed
- get her hair done
- get a pedicure
I realise to some this may sound frivolous but TRUST ME. There will be no time for any of this for months after. My baby's nearly 3 months now and I STILL can't work out when I'm going to get to deal with my roots.

From what I hear she will get a brazilian wax/shave before she gives birth. I have to witness labor pains, contractions, the baby coming out, the placenta being removed. Oh, I can't wait!
You have a great idea. I will take her on Saturday to get beautified. I may even sit and get a pedicure. I like my feet rubbed---what can I say---I'm a sucker for being treated like a King.

Rock, your last response when you suggested Quint stuck in my mind. I brought it up to the wife. Guess her reaction? Laughter and then NO.
I must say that I also like Aidan. The only thing that has me wavering is that it was #1 in baby names in 2004. I would think in the Northern Panhandle of Texas there aren't many Aidans.
I would like to hear from others---just put Aidan or Quinn.
I just want to gauge the BBMB perception of the names.

tell her to get lots of sleep too. that's not easy tho, as i remember it being difficult to get comfortable while carrying a vast watermelon plus 3 gallons of water inside your tummy.
i remember doing the pampering thing in the final weeks. i found a beauty parlour that had a special massage table with a huge hole in the middle, so you could lie on your tummy -- it was worth it just for being able to do that!
if only you could bank sleep. it would be a very useful invention.

Sorry, his name will be one of the 2.
I thought of Jeremy and we mulled it over. It was in the running for quite some time. But, alas, Jeremy fell to the wayside.

I might be a good Pops. I am an insomniac and take great naps.
My wife has been a champ. She never complains and we have recently gone through a cross country move, she started a new job in an executive position and we have been getting the new house organized. This has been in the last 3 months. Crazy.....
She does have trouble sleeping and this weekend I plan on making her sleep and chill out. She is a person that likes activity so I may fail.
she's a lucky lady!

Does your wife have a thing for Aidan Quinn (http://imdb.com/name/nm0001644/)?

I thought you cant dye your hair while preggo?
You can get your highlights done, since the dye/bleach is not 'on the skin'.

I thought of him when she came up with Aidan. Luckily it will one or the other.
