Well, either suggestions or opinons would do.

Here's the situation. I've been working 7 days and 13 hours per dayfor a month due to the fact that we were short handed in our shop because one of the guys has completed his contract and has went home.

Because of that, it's been only 2 people running the shop rather than the required 3 people so, it prevented us from taking normal days off.

We now are back to normal manning as required for night shift but since we are at that point of proper manning, my boss hasn't told me if I can take my normal scheduled days off.

He's already told one of the guys here that he can't take his days off because he's the only guy in his office that has access to the computer to do the functions of that office but, he hasn't told me anything and here it is, Thursday, my usual day off per the schedule that he's made.

My point being is that I work under him and he's the boss and I shouldn't have any doubts as to completing the mission as scheduled, especially since we're currently at the minimal manpower as posted to complete our mission.

Right now I'm debating whether to call him to make sure if I should come in or wait for him to call me and I know he won't because believe me, it's happened before.

This same guy, when he knows my days off are Thursday and Friday, will come in on Wednsday, 15 minutes prior to closing for the weekend time and you've already made plans, will tell you , "oh, and we need you to work tomorrow."

Maybe I'm questioning his judgement on supervisory but I do have that right. I worked in corrections in a facility where 85% of the population will die there, not because of illness but it's because of the fact that they've committed some sickening crimes and because of that, they'll never see freedom's sunlight.

Now, you can see where I question his supervisory skills being that mine could have cost my life at any given minute.

It's very easy to be a supervisor and inform people as to how the mission will be for the next couple of days. Why do I have to feel guilty? Why can't he just tell me what's going on rather than me sitting here waiting for a phone call from him to tell me to take my days off, per his schedule?

Yeah, most of you guys are asleep by now and you won't be online till later, when it's already been said and done but, go ahead and put your input in on my dilemma. Any voice of you guys, would be greatly accepted and reviewed and appreciated by me.:)

Just go to work and suggest to the boss that he should hire someone new to help out.

I'd also make it clear that he needs you more than you need him, if he doesnt want you to have your days off. That or suggest to him that he should enroll in college and take some business administration/management courses to understand how to run a business and how to treat his employees

Letting a boss control you like this will eventually end in either you quitting or him firing you.

That was probably not good advice, but their it is.

Good luck to you

Just go to work and suggest to the boss that he should hire someone new to help out.

But yet, you see why I want to disagree his lack of leadership. We are at proper manning as per required but yet, he hasn't informed me as to whether to go about my normal work as required based upon the schedule that was written by him.

I shouldn't even go to work being that it's my day off. Period.

That was probably not good advice, but their it is.

My friend, I'm an army veteran whose career based knowledge has nothing more than seeing the enemy and killing the enemy. Communication is essential but it's mostly silent, hand signals.

I recon that you're in college right? I will gladly inform you with my grunt knowledge. Their weapons cache is over there.

Good luck to you

It's greatly appreciated. I want and need all of the advice I can get because I'm about to just off and leave.

Only problem is that this is the best paying job since I've been back home and I've been working here for quite some time before I went overseas.

so from what i gather, you should have the day off, because thats what you schedule tells you...

but your boss never told you to not come in, so you have to assume that you are needed to work?

maybe you should go talk to him and ask him about what days you are scheduled to have off so that you can schedule your free time as necessary. that was he is reminded that you are supposed to have a few days off

ahhh, jabumbo. I know where you're coming off, you're coming off as me being the "good employee" and to be forgiving into his acts of lack of leadership.

This is the reason why I can't accept faulty leadership. I really can't for the fact that I was in that predicamet before and faulty leadersip could've resulted in my own death.

In corrections yes, but being overseas, it could've costed more than my own death.

This is the only point that I have to ponder. A lack of communications, when you are the cheif.

^^^see these arrows? There should be no questions if you know how to run your show

yeah, so I didn't call him. He hasn't called me yet so fuck it.

You have to see my outlook on this. Do I really need to fill in the void of his lack of communications as a suprevisor?

As mentioned, he's already told my coworker that he can't take his regular days off but, he hasn't told me squat.

So, you know how I think? My scheduled days off- thurs and fri. It is now thurs and I have no further direction other than what's posted on the board.

If you want to prevent your ship from sinking, if you want to lead your platoon to victory, then you better have good communication skills.
