I recently picked-up and moved to the Panhandle of North West Texas. Amarillo to be exact. They call it the High Plains and when you set foot in the area you will know why. Drive outside the town and it is nothing but horizon as far as the eye can see. I saw my first roadrunner, tumbleweed and armadillo last week. I visited Palo Duro canyon, the 2nd largest canyon in the US, or so I heard. It was really impressive and a nice hike.
Tonight was the kicker of all kickers. My wife got some free tickets to see Dwight Yoakam at a place called the midnight rodeo. http://www.midnightrodeoamarillo.com/
My wife is 7 months pregnant so we couldn't stay long but it was an experience to remember. Amarillo is home to real life cowboys. Everyone had cowboy hats and nice snap button western shirts. Bootscootin was happening before our very eyes. I walked in and saw Dwight Yoakam on stage and all I could think of was---why were you so mean to Karl? His roll as Doyle was fantastic and he was a real son-of-a-bitch. I hear he is in a new film soon to be released on DVD. It is called A Walk on the Moon. I am a fan of outlaw country and he sounded really good. I could have stayed all night and people watched at the place called the Midnight Rodeo. This town of Amarillo is like Mars to me but I am kind of liking it in outerspace.
