New album is done, has a title (try and guess what it is :p) and tour dates have been announced for most of the world (including Adelaide which makes me very happy)

He added an entry at his site here: http://www.djshadow.com/digest/ and here it is:

The New Album is Done!
What's up everybody. The album's done. It's being mastered next week. In fact I'm presenting it to my label this friday in London. If anybody is in the area and wants to hear a few tunes, stop by Island Records, 364-366 High St. Kensington, London W14 around 3:30pm, give or take. Maybe I'll bring a portable CD player or something. We'll figure it out.

There's been a lot of speculation as to the vibe of the new album. Some have predicted that the whole album is in the hyphy vein like 3 Freaks. To those people I say: RELAX YOUR BACK, YOU'VE ONLY HEARD ONE SONG. The album is very diverse, and reflects the fact that I don't fit comfortably in any one genre. My critics see that as a problem, but I don't...it's simply the way things are. I've never really fit into any one clique. That's why the album is called The Outsider.

In some ways it's a risky record. It's going to turn some people off. And I think I'll lose some fans. On the other hand, I know I'll gain some new ones. That's a fair trade in my mind. Besides I can't see playing it safe at this point in my life.

There's songs with samples and songs with no samples. There's very dark stuff and very light stuff. Fast and slow. Simple and complicated. And there's songs on this album that I think blow away almost anything else I've ever done, so...we'll see. I think song for song it's the best album I've ever made. One thing's for sure...it's going to make it very difficult for people to imitate my sound.

Anyway I wanted to hit everyone with an update since it had been so long. As you can see from the tour dates, I'll probably have a chance to hook up with a lot of you out on the road. And there's more to come. Thanks for reading this and hanging in there for me.

-Shadow

I know a lot of people have been turned off by 3 Freaks and that, but goddamn I can't wait for this album. It sounds really good and he really seems to believe in what he's made, which is great.

no coments on the album yet? guess ill start, ill keep it short.

this is a tough album to describe..well first its very different than any other of his albums (duh). lots of the tracks seem much more polished if you know what i mean, not so gritty maybe. the hip hop tracks are decent if youre into that style, its got a 3/4 beat on there which i though was cool, hadnt heard much hip hop in 3/4.

i dont know, this review sucks, i already give up.

I bought it on Monday and have listened to it about 3 times all the way through. I think it's less accessible than the previous 2 and on some of the tracks, I think the guest spots overshadow (excuse the pun) his actual music but I definitely like it. I'm going to keep listening to it as I think it's a grower

i've only listened to it the once and i haven't felt the need to go back to it yet. Mentally i can't get passed those hyphy mc's. It's cool supporting your native scene but you know, throw a few 12's out, don't sit them in the middle of the album. Just bad sequencing for me

I'm a little put off by all the recent comments he made about nerdy fans and shit, i'll bet in person he's a massive music dork, to the point of boring. I don't see the point in trying to alienate his core audience. All those little nerds will be thinking fuck you shadow. Turning on the people who got you where you are now never works, just ask kweli

They want Endtroducing... PART DEUX, he didn't, obviously. This guy has hundreds of 45's and LPs. The collection is INSANE. He would buy a lot of old stuff from this old warehouse full of shit ran by some lady who didn't know better. Then one day he showed up and it was demolished.

The album is kind of disjointed. The songs are good to shuffle through with an iPod.

i saw this today and sorta "hrmmm i'll get it unless i find something better" and i did end up just swapping it for 'big lebowski' which was, like, 14 bucks or something

see i have no problem with growth, entroducing is what it is and we can't go back to 96 BUT entroducing for me was a great creative album and this hyphy bullshit is just a huge step backwards. I just don't see the point

The hyphy shit could have just been a side project. I completely agree with that. And from a business standpoint it should have. Josh isn't a businessman. I admit I want to hear some more shit like off of The Private Press. Or Psyence Fiction... godamn.

I'm interested to see how this album performs next to Private Press numbers wise.

I think he will always have a fan base and can probably live quite comfortably doing dj spots around the world. It just seems super stupid to alienate a large part of that base by insulting them in magazines. Play the game, say i want my fans to grow with me and all that other bullshit, because the sad truth these days is if you don't sell you're dropped and thats it. Even someone like shadow will be partly motivated by money

I'm going to pass on the new Shadow. There's a two-disc DJ Krush collection that's one half studio, one half live that I'm keeping an eye out for instead.

Sluggo recommended it.(y)

All I've heard from DJ Shadow is "Entroducing..." (the reissue from last year, actually! Great album!), but I'm getting that impression that he's a lot like Nas, right?

In that, Nas put out an awesome debut, but everything he's released afterwards pales in comparison.

Could the same thing be said for DJ Shadow? Help me out here

yeah thats pretty much the jist of it. but the private press is a good album too, the outsider just isnt that great, no matter who put it out you know?
