Ok roosta....now we got a new one.

A space dedicated to all of you football geeks :p

As a big fan of the most popular sport in the world I have to say im pretty confident about our chances this year. 6 times world champions would be nice.

Will Rooney be recovered for the Cup??

roosta
05-20-2006, 03:21 AM
can't see Rooney being fit.

I see England art still second favourites, which is mind boggling...
Ok, they've a great midfield, and a good defense (even as a gooner, campbell isnt near his best yet) but they have few scoring options. Stevie G can't knock them all in from 30 yards...

I'm thinking the Argentinian team has a shot as usual, Brzail will be around, England will go well, but my personal choice is of course, the Dutch.

My choice: Netherlands
Who will win: England/Brazil

roosta

England will do where near as good as some people think. Seriously.

Its a Germany/Brazil final.

CJM

i'm rooting for Senegal, Turkey, and Argentina. Japan and Korea were surprisingly fun to watch last time. one of the most exciting games i watched last cup was Japan/Belgium. it finished just before i had to catch my bus to school. i was excited the rest of the day.

it sucked, though, cause the cup started the same time as my final exams, so i was pretty much sleeping through them, since the games started at about 1 or so at night.

ToucanSpam
05-20-2006, 12:36 PM
The US will draw once and lose twice, not making it out of their group. They lack any kind of decent defenders and their mid field is not as strong as a team like Italy. Their scoring is good, but if you score 3 goals but give up 4...and so on.

Sweden would be the surprise team to topple England, but I just don't think Sweden is strong enough to hold back the firepower of the English.

in the USA's group there is only one challenge and thats the czechs. Italy is old and is always lackluster, if they werent "italy" no one would mention them, they are scrubs. i could see them losing all 3 games. Ghana is good but still not on a level to beat USA.

i see the U.S. going with 2 wins and a draw.

Germany? no way. sure they have the homefield advantage but they have an average team and a manager that doesn't even live in the country. they'll be well organised and they'll scrap like the fighting pigs they are. Qualifying out of their group is a given, but I can't see a repeat of 2002.

in 2002 Germany got a great draw. last 16 was against Paraguay, quarter finals against USA and semi final against Korea. and each game they only won 1-0. if they'd come up against any half decent team they would've gone down.

hmm, kewell and viduka versus a team that would prolly cost half a billion dollars to buy in transfer fees  my guess is brazil will make it to double figure. I'm not being unpatriotic, just a realist. anyone who's being saying there'll be an upset against brazil in the first round is a fucking moron, that or croatian or japanese. it's not only that they have a great team, their coach has a completely different style to anyone else's in the world, and that goes a long way in soccer. New Zealand are playing Brazil in a warm-up game. we're gonna take those samba fruitcakes down.

Everyone with any idea about football will say Brasil if given the "2 seconds, save the bullshit"-interview.

But. Brasil has weaknesses; old & blind defense and "dropsit" Dida in goal.

By far the best squad out there, but can be beaten.

Germany is all BUHAHAHAHAHAHAHA, but since they play at home and it's fucking Germany they can reach the semi's. Hell, the way they played shit football and reached the final in 2002, who knows. I would have to move out, the hype is already too much to bear.

England and Spain will disappoint everyone like they always do.

I say Argentina, Holland, both have good chances in case they can clear the(ir thoughest of em all) group stage.

Forget Italy. Fuck 'em.

Portugal's dreams are over, Czechs can still have a few words to say. I hope they do, my favourites at Euro 2004 still have aces.

Croatia, Sweden, these two are my "black horse" candidates. Both have excellent squads and the willpower + balls (well, everyone knows Swedish men don't have balls, but figuratively speaking) to cap some BIG asses.

I have put money on Argentina and Sweden. Meet me at the bar if either of these win it. Nahhh, meet me at the bar regardless.

For me the dream come true is just to live in a country/city that has actual World Cup games played in it. Chances are I get to see a game in Stuttgart, but I will only scream of joy when I hold the ticket.

Drederick Tatum
05-24-2006, 03:27 PM

go to Nurnberg and watch England v Trinidad with the added bonus of Tobago. Crouch to score his only goal of the tournament in a 4-0 win.

France are too old. Zidane, Makelele and Thuram have had a whole season of league football and their legs must be pretty tired. and the French have no team spirit. there must be about three factions within the team and the keepers hate each other. they'll get out of the group but no further.

The US have the Italians and Czechs in the same group so they have no chance.

You keep pretending that the US is going to win it all, chump. They won't make it out of the group of death and you better not show your face around here when it happens because you'll look like an even bigger ass than you already do, running around saying the US is going to beat Italy, Czech Republic and Ghana when they couldn't keep it together to beat a team that didn't even qualify for the World Cup and is ranked 36th. England went and lost to Belarus in the middle of the week. It's no big deal, same as the US losing to Morocco. These matches are nothing more than a chance for the coaches to try out some last minute experiments and plan B's, the final scores aren't really important.

Do you ever get tired of fair weather fans? It's an absolute DISEASE in my hometown. Do you just want to hit some of the people displaying their flags over the head with a blunt object? Did people put those flags on their car doors before this year? I know you have some serious, fulltime football fans, but do you get tagalongs too?

Having just returned from England where people were discussing this world cup thing non stop, I'd like to ask you fans a question (if you don't mind me butting into your shittalk thread):

Do you ever get tired of fair weather fans? It's an absolute DISEASE in my hometown. Do you just want to hit some of the people displaying their flags over the head with a blunt object? Did people put those flags on their car doors before this year? I know you have some serious, fulltime football fans, but do you get tagalongs too?
Do NOT get me started...

I call some of my friends "tournament sluts".

On the note of mr crouch.

I started watching the friendly game Brasil - FC Luzern, and after they scored two goals in a few minutes I thought "this is gonna end 8-0". I read the paper this morning, and there it is, it ended 8 - 0 !!! :D

Didn't get what interest the brasilian team had in playing this game, their defense had basically nothing to do for the whole game ??

Do you ever get tired of fair weather fans?

If they're going to watch the games and enjoy the atmosphere and so forth it's all good. If they think people will be interested in their opinion on the German midfield after reading something in the paper, then they are an irritation, yes.

Do you just want to hit some of the people displaying their flags over the head with a blunt object? Did people put those flags on their car doors before this year?

The flags on cars started appearing before the last tournament England played, which was two years ago. But there seems to be even more now. I have a flag on my car, but it's painted on the roof, so I guess that's an excuse. And it's a Union flag, not the St. George cross.

I know you have some serious, fulltime football fans, but do you get tagalongs too?

Yeah, a lot of them started to appear after Euro 96 which was held in England. Some of them stuck around and attendances at matches started to really increase, a lot of them just come out of the woodwork whenever there's a big international tournament on the horizon, and always seem to be incredibly loud and annoying.

I think one of the best things about the World Cup is how people who normally wouldn't be interested in football are suddenly fans. now I can actually watch a game with my girlfriend and feel all smart explaining to her what's going on... hi, i'm a girl. i'd just like to put my non-informed two cents in.

i'm half english so, in the absence of any scottish team (hah!) of course i am going to support england. the same certainly cannot be said of my fellow scots who, as usual, do the traditional thing of supporting whichever team en-ger-land is playing.

i don't know much about football and i don't really care for it, apart from this national isht. when england were playing.. uh, spain in um.. euro.. whatever last time and they lost?! for some shitty, ehm, reasons?! omg, was i upset. i was on my knees grasping the television set and shaking it, foaming at the mouth and the nazi ref and faux sobbing. it was horrible! so i get very involved and patriotic at these events.

my boyfriend works for ross county football club which, no, isn't very glamorous but they're in the scottish second division and i got to go and see the bells club final - my first ever real life football game! - last year with them against partick thistle. they were great in the first half but just let it slip in the second. sitting with hundreds of fans and travelling back home on a coach with them, all horribly upset, was so depressing! i can't imagine what it was like at that england v spain game.

i was thinking of going to a pub to watch the england game with the manfriend on saturday but they will all likely be full of shouty scottish fans screaming abuse at the team, so we're gonna stay at home. we're going to have themed food for each of the teams we watch! wooh!

fish and chips it is, then. :)

Having seen Cisse play a couple of times last season, I was definately under the impression that he is a much better winger than traditional centre forward. I support Fulham, against us he played a half in each position - first half up front he did nothing but when he went on the wing in the second half, he tore our defence to sheds down our left hand side.

having followed him at Auxerre before he came to the Premiership I can tell you that he is a fantastic forward. he's kind of in the style of Anelka and even Owen, strikers who can use their pace to either run at defenders or onto through balls. Cisse did alright for Liverpool on the wing, going round guys with his speed, but he's not a natural passer I think. he needs to shoot.

It was 10 pounds, at the time Crouch was on the fringes of the England team, but I reasoned that Owen would probably be carrying injuries into the tornament and that there was a pretty good chance of Crouch being a World Cup starter.

Now Crouch is a World Cup starter and is averaging near a goal a game for England - it only takes a hat trick against Trinidad and he is half way there. Hence my smugness.

I am no fan of Crouch either but at 120-1 it seemed to good to miss out on.

^yeah I saw some of that. Donovan was obviously one to watch. the US did pretty well in that tournament. fourth was a good showing.

anyway, England are in danger of becoming a one dimensional team. the long ball to Crouch cannot become the only tactic, especially when he's not winning the majority to the contests. England have the players to work it around and build up attacks. I think the involvement of Joe Cole is going to be key if England are to go far.

Mexico vs Iran. Mexico shows that it's really not a top 5 team as Iran declare football jihad, the Mexicans win 2-1 but not after a scare.

tomorrow's games are tough to predict.

i mean, japan - australia and us - czech, anything can happen but my bet would be

japan - australia 1-0
us - czech 2-1
italy - ghana 2-0

the US beat the Czechs? one of the highest scoring teams in the European qualifiers? unlikely.

Japan-Australia 1-1
US-Czech 1-2
Italy-Ghana 2-0

Beckham has loads of stupid tattoos up his arms, and Crouch has this big long twiggy things, which they both might want to cover up.

thanks. :)

i didnt think of the tattoo thing, cause around here people take a lot of pride in their stupid tattoos.

the fuck are you talking about? Buffon is arguably the best keeper in the world. it's like saying Brazil lack strikers.

I hope it goes one of two ways...

1) England play Gernamy in the final and win. this might put to rest all the England/germany "we won the war" bullshit I have to put up with all the time once and for all.

2) England bow out early, and all them idiots can put away their shirts and car flags - the height of English patriotic pap - and go back to complaining how shit England is instead, like they ususally do.

See........we're not invencible. Far from that. The secret is not to be afraid of us. Im not saying this in a cocky way. Im saying that sometimes the other teams respect too much Brazil and forget to play. They concern a lot in not letting brazil score. Thats a difficult task. Face brazil equally and attack as much as you can. Thats the secret to beat us. And explore Cafu's and Roberto Carlo's sides. Their weak and old players. ohhh....I fucking hate them!!!
