I take it you haven't seen Deliverance?

Yeah, I have seen Deliverance.
Police officers are getting more and more freedom to do as they please each and every day. Laws are being passed or are in the wings ready to be passed that continue to blur the line between Military and the Police Force.
And if that girl's parents hadn't been police officers, I'm not so sure it would've made the news.

Hell yeah. The revolution is long over due.
I think the "point of no return" is a concept that is neither here nor there. But, for lack of better phrase-ology, like you, I don't want the pendulum swinging any farther in its current direction.

Oh no!!! (http://www.cnn.com/2006/LAW/06/15/scotus.search.ap/) Police don't have to knock anymore?
"In a dissent, four justices complained that the decision erases more than 90 years of Supreme Court precedent."

i wonder how many deceased police officers it will take to realize that this is not the way to go. think about how many situations that may have otherwise ended quietly will end in gunfire as a direct result of this ruling. (n)

Police are corrupt a lot of places. One of the most corrupt forces in our country is PG County police, in Maryland. You gotta put yourself in their shoes. Majority of them don't have college degrees. They join the force to feel like they have authority and power. They're stationed in a college town (College Park, MD) with a bunch of drunken idiot fratboys. Maryland's basketball team has just won the championship game for basketball, and the idiot fratties come out to riot/ "celebrate". Putting together the background of these officers, the feelings towards these priviledged kids that get to go to college, the hatred of these young dumb kids who think celebrating is lighting couches on fire, all you need is a catalyst like a "wild celebration" and you'll see shit you never thought possible. Cops arresting and beating kids left and right, regardless of what they're doing. Cops yelling so hard you can see the veins in their neck and the spittle come flying wildly out of their mouths. Cops cursing at kids, shooting pellet guns at anyone who moves. Granted, I'm smart enough to stay away from the riots in the first place, but the people who were just trying to get to their car after visiting a restaurant don't deserve a faceful of mace.
Cops in this country have issues. The types of people that decide to join the force do so for a reason. They want power when they have none. They get to have a gun that they can use on other people legally if they need to. They're "above" the law since they are the law.
It's inherently fucked up.

Actually, To Serve and Protect is their motto, not their responsibility. I'm being serious, many people do not know this, a police officer does not 'need' to protect you, that's not part of their responsibilities.
I learned this a few weeks ago when the news broke in NJ about the disturbed student being shot. Thought it was interesting.

Well, that particular motto is supposed to express the purpose of their organization. Just sayin'.
