IM looking into buying a new tv and i hear all the diffrences w both of them. I play video games alot and i hear from my friend that DLP is the way to go but that LCD has better quality.

What do you guys think if you have these kind of tvs, which do you find better?

Depends!

LCD flatpanels and Plasmas are the priciest and offer by and the large the best performance. Rear projection TVs like DLP LCD and (ugh) CRT are next in price and quality. True Hi-definition TVs will run you around 2000-10000+ bucks. Full 720p (1080i) lines of resolution baby!

If you find say, a 42 inch LG Plasma for around 2000 bucks, chances are it isn't true hi-def. Terms like 'EDTV' (Enhanced Definition TV) and 'HDTV Ready' can be found on lower end sets. Even old shitty-assed CRT rear-projos have 'HDTV Ready' on them. It's because that while these sets can display a hi-def images, they're not necessarily true hi-definition.

Not to say the pictures look awful on some of the mid-to-lower end quality sets. The generation of technology whether it be DLP, LCD or Plasma is worth noting. For instance, the most notable change in Samsungs' DLP technology from gen2 to gen3 was going from solid to air bearings with the color wheel internals. This is a big step in terms of the efficiency and long-term durability of the tv set. We three opted to get a 5-year full on-site warranty at the date of purchase. I'd say the extra 500 dollars we paid for that has earned itself back only 8 months into it's life in the rec room (y)

If you're thinking of getting a big screen tv, especially a DLP, look into insuring the set. There are ALOT more moving parts in a DLP set. There are close to 100,000 tiny mirrors on pivots that can position themselves in ON or OFF positions. This contributes to the superior contrast ratios and 'true blacks' that's evident in higher-end units. I'm a little biased regarding the type of technology. They all have their merits. Be sure to check the sets out in person to get a feel for them.

Here's my two cents in the frontrunners in each tech category :

LCD flatpanel :[hi-end] Sharp AQUOS $$$$$ [low-end-to-mid-range] BenQ.LG
Plasma : [hi-end]Panasonic..Samsung [low-end-to-mid-range] Sony, LG
LCD rear-projo : [hi-end]Hitachi..Panasonic [l-e-2-m-r] Sony, Panasonic
DLP rear-projo : Samsung :D
CRT rear-projo : save the extra money for a different technology. Seriously.

best consistent bangs for the buck : LG, BENQ, TOSHIBA, MITSUBISHI, ELECTROHOME etc..

if your watching sport, esp. fast paced, do not go for LCD. lots of trailing and ghosting. plasma is better. having said that the life of a plasma set is only a few years typcally.

best plasma? fujitsu, by far. they invented it, and are still the best by a long margin. panasonic comes second.

i dont even know what DLP means.

Digital Light Projection

I worked at a distribution center in the returns department for hitachi, rca, proview, toshiba, pioneer, akai, yamaha, ect. I have about 2 years experience in the field and would suggest highly that you purchase an LCD. I've never returned one unless it was due to damage and had to run a freight claim or express claim on it. If you decide to purchase a DLP remember two words, light engine. That is what you will be buying to fix your tv at some point. FYI RCA has the largest failure rate. One in five tv's we ship comes back dead out of the box. Go with a toshiba.
