I was just thinking about this book recently, so when I found it at a yard sale Saturday, I bought it. The entire time I'm reading it, I see it all in script form in front of me, thinking about how it could be a great movie.
I looked it up on IMDB to see if there was a film version of it yet, and it turns out they are in pre-production with Jeff Bridges attached as the Giver. Hope it turns out well....I loved the book as a kid and it's pretty interesting to read again. Anybody else here read it?
at first i thought you meant Macgyver (http://forevergeek.com/images/macgyver.jpg), then realized my mistake.
never read the book. i think it's cause of the old man on the cover. i always judged books/movies by their cover, and have missed out. if i see it around, i'll probably look it up, cause the summary on IMDB looked good.

I read it when I was in Grade 10 many many moons ago. I liked it, but the best part was when he was describing his erotic dream to his dad. I thought that particular chapter was funny because this kid is totally spilling his guts about a wet dream to his parents. Creepy.

Terrific book. I read it in elementary school for the first time, and recently read it over. It's every bit as engaging as it was when I read it back then.

I loved that book. I remember in 7th grade having to make a movie poster (if the book were to ever become a movie). For some reason, I chose James Earl Jones to play the part of "The Giver"
But haaayyyy... I got an A.

James Earl Jones would probably rock that shit.
I just finished reading it barely. Good shit, man. I really hope they do a good job on the film. It practically lends itself to a great script anyway.
