How do people dress in your area? How would someone go about fitting in walking around your daily routine locations?
People around here aren't very stylish at all. The business crowd wears averagely cut suits and boring shoes. It's rare to see a really refined corporate looking person. Most people just wear khakis and a button down shirt. No one really wears high heels or expensive labels.
On weekends you see a lot of levis, GAP, and wal-mart/Sears/k-mart/Old Navy clothes - sandals and jeans, tee shirts. If they have a little more money they wear Eddie Bauer.
Most people are not in great shape and don't care. Women wear matching business casual outfits like printed tops and pants that match. It's pretty bad. A lot of it looks like cheap JCPenney stuff. You rarely see tight fitting clothes. Ladies still love the large baggy sequined shoulder bags worn with anything from clubwear to sweats to work clothes.
And there are a lot of farmers who wear overalls with a million pockets.
Then there's the teenaged/college hipster crowd who wear their uniform of tight jeans, white or black belts, and tight dark tee shirts, and either chuck taylors or vans. The college students wear Abercrombie and Fitch and Hollister and American Eagle.
Except for the teens, it's all very midwestern / rural / engineers / practical/ don't show off.

I still see Hammer pants and big hair in my city.
In my neighborhood, it's mostly jeans with tee shirts. I live within walking distance of several universities. People either are poor or pay big money to look that way.

I was in Washington last week and probably just because of where my hotel was, I saw nothing but smartly dressed people, people in great shape, lots of people exercising, lots of former hippie types buying flowers and produce at the open-air markets. I think being walking-distance-close to Georgetown and Dupont Circle had something to do with that, but it was odd not to see sloppiness everywhere.

Generally, out in the suburbs, most people wear a lot of G-Unit/Phat Farm/Baby Phat/Shady/Rocawear/Echo. Both adults and youngsters alike. And of course, Gap.
In the city people seem to dress less embarrassingly and tend to have pretty diverse tastes. I wouldn't say that Vancouver is the fashion hotbed the various towns of rural Illinois can be, but you can get pretty much anything here, really. Anything.
i don't pay attention. hell, i don't even know what my own style is, i've only just started paying attention to that. untucked button-downs are a safe bet for a skinny tall guy, right?

When it comes to the ALTERNATIVE style, people (or kids) my age are now into the "emo", or "scene" scene. You know.. Studded belts, the whooshed, dyed black hair... "Rockabilly" seems to be very popular as well. 50s stylee (pomps, polka-dots, the works), I should say. As for "punk", it's died down quite a bit in recent years. Of course, there are your pseudo-individualists/art fags, which require little or no use of a mirror. Quilted skirts, ugly-ass dyes and smelly oils... My least favorite.
When it comes to the adults, obese men and women tend to admire sweatpants, Looney Toon-themed tees that read "BORN TO BE WILD" or "BABY GIRL" and Sketchers on their feet.
The more-so preppy/sophisticated (so they think) wear Express, Gap, American Eagle, Old Navy and Abercrombie.
Black people, African Americans (I dunno, which is politically correct?) sport what is known as "urban" wear. G-Unit, Apple Bottoms, Timbs, BCBG, Roca, Baby Phat, etc., etc. Personally, that would be my favorite style (on other people). Unfortunately, I am not black and would not be able to wear such brands. :(

I don't really think of BCBG as "urban wear", myself. Well, not of the G-Unit/Apple Bottoms/Baby Phat variety.

the problem here is that no one seems to be local, so you're sometimes judging a tourist.
the corporate / legal crowd all wear regular suits with plain shoes, just like there. except me. my suits are badass. my shoes are a different story. it's not really appropriate to wear open toed shoes or sandals, and i have a hard time walking in heels. so, my heels tend to look like this (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v116/Bethofcourse/newworkshoes1.jpg). :(
on the weekends, i wear jeans. very expensive jeans, with a designer label. i make no apologies for that; i'm picky about my jeans, and i feel you get what you pay for. i'll wear a nice t-shirt, or sometimes i'll wear a dressier shirt with them if i'm going to a bar. if i'm going out to dinner to a nice place, i'll dress up a little more.
the twentysomethings wear sequined, spandex, cleavage bearing shirts. some of them have no business being anywhere near spandex, but regardless of size / girth, they do it anyway. the guys wear long sleeved, button down shirts that are untucked. they're usually striped or something, not just a plain color. the twenty somethings are label whores like me, and you usually see it most when it comes to designer purses or wallets.
oh, and the sunglasses are pretty much always designer, regardless of gender, unless it's a redneck or an illegal immigrant.
like beth, we have a large tourist population, so if you're downtown near the casinos, it's "dirty american" wear...

just like any other city basically.
You have your white collar people, blue collar people, homeless people.
Cracked up black guys who stop to say, "God Bless you man. Jesus is so wonderful. YO, you have any money i could borrow for a snack?" Then I say "NO"...then he walks away while saying "fuck you". I would actually consider giving some of them money if they were actually honest with me. Like "yo, Could i have some change? I need to pay off my crack dealer."
Why cant these people just be honest instead of going the jesus route?
You also have your college kids. Whom you could fit in about 10 diffrent categories.
I think I could fit in with just about anyone cause im cool like that.
I do prefer going to high class places when i go to bars and clubs though. The only reason for that is to stay away from all the people who just wants to start fights and cause trouble. I like being happy when i drink. Drink and be merry!

I live about 30 metres from uni so the neighbourhood is full of student vermin. there's no real style, you can sometimes pick what subject they study by what they wear. polar fleece is a sure sign of earth sciences, whereas if they're ridiculously overdressed they're bound to be a law or commerce cocksucker. we don't see too many of their type up here though, they stay at their own school.

I live on the fringes of the ghetto, but not too far from the uni, so it's a nice mish-mash of faux-punk and givemeyourwallet chic.

Boys- mostly grunge style like baggy ripped pants and a hoodie
Girls- tight jeans with stupid shirts from walmart that say shit on them
There's also a minority of kids that wear big black baggie pants with chains and a bunch of pockets, shirts from Hot Topic, eye make up, dark hair, and always muggin.
Of course there's always gonna be "Preps and Jocks", they all wear the usual "preppy" name brands from American Eagle and Abercrombie I think? I don't go to the mall often.
The other half of the population is black and they have the most style in my opinion. All the girls of course are sporting Nelly's clothing line Apple Bottoms. Dudes wearing baggy jeans and baggy shirts from all the Hip Hop name brands.
All of that is according to my highschool. I see a lot of older woman wearing clothes you'd see pre teen girls wearing, it's kinda sad. :p

the girls at my college are mostly AE and abercrombie slutbags, and the guys are pretty similar. the girls around where i live and work are more into the hollywood indie thing - skinny jeans (yeah, i wear them too), flats, a cute top, big sunglasses, big necklace, headband, wispy crazy haircut. and a lot of them have HUGE handbags. leggings are still respectable here. i gave in a bought a couple of pairs with my miniskirt. because, well, i'm too modest to wear it without them. :o

everyone in hobart looks different. not so many "fashionable" people because there aren't that many shops here. heaps of bogans wearing bogan attire. heaps of hippies wearing scraps and dreadlocks. and heaps of "alternative" people. for a small city, there's a huge percentage of them.

same here. also popular are the loose short pants, and knee-length shorts worn with medium heels or flats. i love flats <3 skirts are popular here too, we welcome the warm weather in bare legs.
i live in an 'artsy' part of the city, so people tend to get pretty creative with their clothing and hairstyles. there are also a lot of plain people who wear black dress pants with a sweater/ collared shirt - these are the homeowners of the area who i am guessing do not have too much time to shop as they need to be working like mad to pay for thier overpriced fabulous condos.

hahaha I have definitely thought the same thing. I can't believe the Mill hired them. doesn't really relate to their mostly rugby watching, jandal wearing, Exponents loving crowd. whenever they ask me for ID I feel like smacking them. same with the gorilla security guard they have there.

People wear whatever the fuck they want. but there arent a lot extreme people to be honest. Teens wear just the average.. a lot hiphop, some skaters but that's getting lesser. quite boring, like me (jeans, top, sneakers, blingbling fake jewels:p )

pretty much anything goes. in my crowd, it's about vintagey deconstructed stuff. sorta urban outfitters without actually shopping there. big sunglasses, lacey tops, etc. we've got some ultra-hipsters who dress like white trash on purpose. the boys are pretty plain. t-shirts, blazers, button-ups. all fitted. tight tight jeans on most people, or jeans that fit nicely without being too baggy.
in the yuppie areas, everyone wears those knit pants with the fold down tops that are disaster on anyone without a perfect firm butt. I dunno, people just wear whatever's hot at the Gap or Banana Republic. the guys are preppy regular. the gays are all over the map.
there aren't too many punk or goth kids...since that style's kinda played out...it's a wee bit too 90's. I imagine it'll come back soon though, when we're all done with the 80's.

There were a lot of girls that went to WVU from Jersey. More so than any other state (other than wv). Most of them were sluts. They usually went out like 5 days a week. Make fun of wv and their friends at the club/bar and then go back to their dormrooms pretending nothing was said.
