View Full Version : AIFST Audience Sizes?

Quick question for those who have seen the movie in theatres:
How have the audience sizes been? Because I saw it tonight in my town- a one-night only special, no less- and there were only about twenty people in the whole audience. Do I just live in an area where people have no taste?
(Lack of audience was good for me, though, because the theatre was happy to sell me the AIFST movie poster. $5CAN! Steal!)

i went to long beach to see it and the theater used a smaller room instead of the big rooms but i'd say about 30/40 people almost the entire room was full but not quite. i heard other theaters had a lot of people

50/350 seats
Of those 50 I think I was the only one who bought tickets.. mainly media types and freebies.

I saw it twice in theaters...The first time was the one-night only premiere and there were 20 people or so. One lonely Beastie I Be was the second time. Seriously.
I think they should have promoted this through radio stations better and done some midnight showings at club-style brew theaters. Almost like a concert event.

it's playing in Buffalo tonight, I wonder how many will show up??
its still hanging around a few other markets as well...
my opinion is it was supposed to be a DVD... any theater screenings, festival showings, etc. were added bonuses... if it hadnt gone to theaters, the lucky fans in Utah and Austin wouldnt have been treated to rare performances...
box office wasnt too kind , however...
the originally conceived DVD will not disappoint...

well me and my friend were sitting in back, so i could count at least maybe ten or so people sitting ahead...which was better than i thought would show up, but not enough that i was so surprised. i think it was an age 20+ crowd, and i was the only one singing reeeally loud. it's like "c'mon people! it's the beastie boys!!!" (we're not watching 'titanic' here duh)
unlike the crowd, the movie didn't disappoint! ha! (y)
oh and forgot that some people came waay late into the movie. i kinda felt like shaking my head at them and going 'tsk tsk tsk' but constrained myself. i came five minutes late, but that was only against my will... :o
hehe i'm talking 'bout it like it just happened yesterday...

The theater I attended apparenlty had expectations for a long line.
They actually set up the red rope to form a line,
sadly..it was not nessasary that evening.
They started promoting a month before the movie opened. (n) Not cool.
The intentions were to have it on DVD, but at the last optimisitc, impulsive minute they decided to place it in theaters.
The 1st trailer was said to be shown for coming attractions at the Dave Chapplle "Block Party" film.
I was dissapointed not only of the lack of advertising,.... but also the SOUND in the theater SUCKED!!
Didnt do the film justice. I would had loved to see this film at an IMAX theater. I would see that more than once if they had it there.
We'll all i can say is that once again the marketing, advertising, industury is not to briliant when coming to the BB's. Im forever going to be a fan, and could give 2 shits who DOESNT dig the Beastie Boys. But it would be nice to reach out to people who just know them as "Fight for your right", and "SAbotage" guys! The boys have so much been under-rated for so long!!
Maybe thats what we dig them so much?!
DVD im gettin it....1st week....why??
Cuz im down, wit Mike D .... cause he aint no boloneee!!
MCA  got nothin to prove.....
and, Adrock :p can make it ....nmmmDrrrrooooPP!!

I'd be interested to see some figures on what the film brought in...or didn't bring in versus the expectations of ThinkFilm.
And I think the Beasties just did it because they wanted to...not necessarily to make a lot of cash. It was just a fun project to work on and express their creativity in a different arena.

True, but it seems to me it was entirely unnecessary. But see, I haven't seen the film yet.

Any info on whether the movie will be shown in theatres in Australia?

I rang a couple of theatres who suggested it might make it to Festivals in August, at a guess.
