they're incredibly popular and have been around for ages, doing their thing. don't really care for the music, but I respect their success.

i don't think about green day. ever.
they have some classic/fun songs that'll easily rock out to from back in the day. i wouldn't buy any of their albums though.

If they were still signed to Lookout! Records, you guys wouldn't have to pretend you're above listening to them.

right, but you and everyone else wouldnt listen to them either.
and for the record, my brother did have a copy of Kerplunk a good year before they were really popular and I thought it was whatever.

Dork^
Everything up to around Dookie was cool with me. I didn't care much after that. There are far worse proto-post-pop-punk bands in this world (Fall Out Gay, Far From Good Charlotte, Ass Pimple Plan) to hate. I wouldn't waste it on them.

well, the point I was trying to make is a whatever band is such regardless of whatever record label they're on...even though its fun to think that the only reason anyone dislikes them is due to their success.
I certainly dont dislike them, Im completely indifferent.

i like their older stuff, i have a couple of the albums. saw them live a long time ago, they burned the drum set, it was a good time.

As far as pop punk or punk rock goes, Insomniac's been one of my favourite albums for some time (y)

Oh, the reply itself was just a general response for the thread starter and the tweens that followed. I was just calling you a dork like, "hey, what's up man", not "hey, listen here, dork..."

i used to have something against them, but i didn't really know what. i probably compared them to Good Charlotte, which was a huge mistake. i saw Green Day live on tv some months ago, and they impressed me. kicked ass. and i happen to love Billie Joe Armstrong voice. haven't got any of their albums tho'.

Excellent band. I don't really have a problem with anyone disliking them though, it's just music.
I do however find it a little strange that when any act, quality or not, becomes very popular, people on this board start to hate it. Most of the time shit bands like the Black Eyed Peas blow up, and the shit talking is justified. But every once in a while an Outkast or a Green Day will blow up, and the people who loved the old stuff the act puts out, are suddenly dissing it. Interesting....

nah as far as mega popular bands go Green Day isnt bad. I never really liked them much but never disliked them. I like longview and hitchin a ride...aside from that I am pretty much indifferent. Wouldnt go out of my way to listen to them but if they were on, I wouldnt complain either.

Yeah, I've felt this sort of "backlash" when it came to Death Cab For Cutie and Franz Ferdinand.

thats because Franz Ferdinand sucks.

Does it ever happen that some friend with horrid taste in music really loves a band and so you never hear that band with an open mind? That's how it is for me with Green Day.
