They were religious outcasts, fleeing to America to escape persecution from the protestant majority. On the other hand, Australian convicts and settlers were...wait for it...religious outcasts, mostly Irish Catholics, sent to Australia because they had been pushed into desperate poverty and petty theft in the united kingdom by the dominant protestants. The difference between the two countries does not lie in the inferiority of either founding group. The difference lies in what the early settlers did with their freedom/lack of freedom. Now I'm not going to argue what many do, that American founders abused their freedom to introduce slavery and the like. Because that raises the issue of Tanaka labourers in Australia, who were essentially slaves as well. And lets not even get into the treatment of the indigenous populations. Instead I am going to point out that where American freedom created an individualist, frontier based work ethic, leading to an inherently unfair free market capitalist system (in direct conflict with many of the liberal intentions of the founding fathers), Australian convict foundations created a strong collective work ethic. This work ethic led to the union movement, which led to fair conditions in the workplace and the development of a comprehensive welfare system.

As for Canada, nice country, but if I were to live anywhere other than Australia it'd be New Zealand. I don’t know anything about Canada's foundations really. And I don’t feel the need to prove any knowledge about Canada here because in saying that Australians are all descendents of "inferior groups" of convicts and guards, you have not taken into account our immigrant population (in case you hadn't noticed Tzar has a Greek background) or our indigenous population. Yeah, I had one of those "board meet-up" thingies involving the other forum I post at (READ Magazine) in New York during the first week of May (and the excursion to DC with QueenAdrock was some BBMB content... two birds, one stone). THAT, let me tell you, was mind-blowing. I met the majority of all the people who post there and they were the same cool people as they were online. Basically, it was one big happy family and the New Yorkers went out of their way to make the out-of-towners feel welcome and that was greatly appreciated.

As for a BBMB meet-up of everyone in one spot... that'd be a near impossibility. Besides the fact that we're all coming from disparate parts of the globe, I'm pretty certain that in the first 15 minutes of the party, we'd all have a real-life "flame war" or "board drama" and it'd just turn into a BBMB barroom brawl (e.g. Qdrop might pick fights with anyone and everyone; RobMoney would show up as an alias and start bothering everyone; tpk and minton would have to "moderate" everything closely, etc.). Not a pretty sight. ;)
