ok, we close at 8, and i always wait until the big clock strikes exactly 8:00 to even turn the sign around. i know this is a pretty big deal in retail, so i've always made damn sure of it. and i guess some lady called the other day all pissed saying that she came at 7:55 twice and we were already closed. BULLSHIT! her clock's probably just off or something, because i know that our clock is accurate. and i told the manager, and my cashier backed me up, that i have NEVER closed a moment before 8. i always let people in for a few minutes after if i haven't closed everything up yet, too! anyway, the manager seemed to believe me...i don't know what else to say. i mean, how can i stop doing something i'm not doing anyway?

i'm willing to bet that's what it's about.

That's a crap manager for doing that!

I know people who absolutely would not take that to be a bad sign and they'd chastise me for thinking it straight off but I'd probably think the nastiest too.

Fuck--last winter, my boss's boss came into my office and he's not a drop-around and chat kind of guy. "Got a minute?" and he had a piece of paper in his hand which my idiot brain immediately assumed was a pink slip. Not that I've ever even SEEN a pink slip or not that companies even use them or that they even are pink but I assumed that that's what he was holding and it turned out to be a bonus check. My mind often makes illogical hops to the negative.

Whatever, your manager should have just grabbed you for a few minutes on company time tomorrow or the next time you were in. Shit way to handle it. Maybe he likes to play games, weirding people out this way. Fucked up sense of power, authority, superiority--some people are into that and the ones who are are creepy.

Maybe your manager just has to be somewhere else during your shift. If they were going to fire you, they'd do it after your shift was over instead of before.

There's no sense in worrying about it too much - the worst thing that can happen is you get fired and have to find a new job. It's not a death in the family.

eh, it was ok. They've just been having issues with the registers adding up at night. i'm pretty sure it's just my cashier screwing it up. I only count the money, i rarely handle it.
