Okay, so we know that they are good for us and the general opinion is that it tastes like crap.
So the idea of this thread is to give your tips on how to make salad taste good.
Heres one:
*Regular green salad
*Olive oil
*Fresh Basil leaves
*Grated Parmesan cheese
*Chopped Walnuts
*Pepper and salt
Rinse the salad and put it in a separate bowl. Take another smaller bowl and pour some olive oil in it. Add the grated parmesan cheese, the chopped walnuts and some salt and pepper. Pour it over the salad and add the Basil leaves. Mix everything togheter and enjoy!(y)

I love fresh and imaginative salads. Absolutely.
I can't stand diner salads: browning iceberg lettuce with a wedge of hard tomato, a stale crouton, french dressing.
My salads are just what I have on hand--no recipe. I'll chop all of the veggies that I have and put them together with any kind of greens (save for iceberg lettuce). I'll use the veggies/greens with a variety of tomatoes, some of a boiled egg, cheese, and then a variety of chopped apples and nuts, seeds, granola, raisins, and a bit of chow mein noodles (crunchy ones). No dressing necessary with all of that.
Often when I'm eating out with my dad/friends, I'll bring a baggie filled with ^^^ to add to the salad that I buy. Perfect and in fact, I'm just about out the door to do that right now...

i'm a salad master.
baby spinach
black kale
romaine
other baby greens (beet, chard, mustard, etc.)
sprouted alfalfa, broccoli, lentils, garbanzos, other beans
mix of canned rinsed salad beans
tomato slices or cherry tomatoes
chopped avocado with a light dusting of paprika or seasoned salt
cucumber slices
jicama slices
shredded carrot/beet
dehydrated veggies (Just Veggies brand - peas, carrots, corn, tomatoes. crunchy and woo fiber)
roasted garlic crumbles
either olive oil and red wine vinegar or annie's goddess dressing
not necessarily all at once, but it can be done.

that's the problem. regular green salad? you're probably just using iceberg. fuck, i hate iceberg lettuce. IT'S ALL WATER, people. noooo nutrients. tasteless too. at least go with romaine! shit, baby spinach is way tastier too. it doesn't need all that much dressing up. give me that and cherry tomatoes and dressing and i'm SET!

Romano salad is good. And yeah, its probably better than Iceberg salad (you guessed it right) but i totally like Iceberg! Its so much more crunchier and i love that it has almost no taste at all.
Another good salad that I make, well not really salad but whatever, I just take tomatoes and slice them, then i slice a mozzarella cheese. I put em on a plate and top it off with some fresh basil leaves, and then I pour some olive oil and som "balsam vinegar" (dont know what you call that in english) over it. Yum!

Iceberg is all about texture but if it's the only green in there, boring. This restaurant close to me has the best salads--lots of different greens and interesting veggies and they clearly try to go for a variety in general. Nice.
Panera's has nice salads. They're a chain and I hate that, but their soups/salads are great and are a better alternative than some of the other eateries that I have access to. Some (most?) of the Panera sandwiches are off-the-chart in terms of fat and calories, but the soups/salads are great.

why do people put fruit in their salads? I HATE that...I love the saltyness of olives, feta cheese...and then have to mess it up with rasberries. I cant do the sweet / salty mix.

Well, you must "generally" know a whole lot of other sorts of people than what I do, as I don't really think I know anyone who would say "salad is crap". Some people may have preferences for certain types of veg over others, or specific dislikes, but that's about as far as it goes.
I think cosmo has it right on this one. People who 'dislike' salad ( I guess there must be some, although I suspect not as many as you seem to think) I imagine have a very limited food repertoire.
edited to add: Ok I just checked your profile; I didn't realise you were an 18 year old fella. That probably explains it, I think - your peer group is probably the least likely salad eaters :)
