I'm seeing these guys on Friday. They've been one of my new favorite bands this last year or so - I randomly got into them just before "Blinking Lights and Other Revelations" came out. Good timing.

I was puttering around the internet and finally came across "Broken Toy Shop" which, btw, is out of print and impossible to find.

Funny enough, I only know E's stuff. I haven't heard The Eels yet. That big-eyed child on the first cover spooked me too much.

Seriously? E's stuff pre-Eels didn't have anywhere near the same edge or production inginuity. Get "Shootenanny!" or "Blinking Lights..." and once you're hooked delve into their whole catalogue.

Is that "With Strings" album good? I've been meaning to fill up my Eels collection...

It was pretty good - but if you have "Oh, What A Beautiful Morning" then it's nothing hugely new. Great tracks on that included E's take on "Pretty Ballerina" and a reprise of "The Only Thing I Care About."

It's worth getting just for the spacial quality and live intonation though if you're a fan. A couple songs like "It's a Motherf$cker" and "If You See Natalie" go from sad studio tracks to heartbreaking live versions.

I love Eels - my friend told me to get Blinking Lights, so I kind of started there and have worked backwards. Going to see them on the 23rd and am so excited...

i love eels.

i was lucky enough to see "them" on the with strings tour. utterly enthralling. i almost lept off the balcony when they covered 'pretty ballerina'.

every album is excellent. good honest stuff.
