I think you can only disable the office assistant for a session of Word. That means that when you quit & start Word again, the office assistant will return--I don't think you can kill it permanently. Given that, Microsoft should stop offering Clippie and the bouncing red ball and Einstein as assistant images and offer Jason Voorhees (http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B000069I0B.01.LZZZZZZZ.jpg) instead.
