I'm referring to the fake methods.

I'm so pale, and decided to get a little tinge. I've only gone a few times, but so far, have seen a difference and am quite satisfied. Another reason why I've started to go; the darkness underneath my eyes (it's been there even as a wee-gal). I like the fact that NOW, I don't have to cake my face with make-up in order to hide it.

It's not that I'm too lazy to sit out in the sun. You see, my neighborhood isn't exactly, uh, "safe"? Plus, no backyard (thanks to my landlord and his lack of upkeep.)

Discuss.

fake methods make me look orange. Actually siting out in the sun turns me red and will give me skin cancer. I'm stuck looking like an Irish zombie forever. (n)

I don't want to get too dark. Just a bit so I don't look dead.

I promise not to get orange!

I had a gf once who tanned to cover up scars on her leg from cutting. :(

Fake baking can look good - but I know so many girls who are unreasonably tanned all year round. Bags or no bags, I like girls who just live with however their lifestyle makes them look.

If you're feeling pale and you can't just sit on the roof though, then get that healthy color by all means!

I agree and you can use a pale person's varicose veins as a maze. If they are pale and Irish you can play connect the dots with their freckles.

I second this big time.

In the gym, I see fake-bake tans lots and semi-up close in the lockerrooms. They're scary streaky. Human carrots. Odd looking. And these are professionally done and they're expensive by the talk that I hear.

It's like when someone streaks or bleaches their hair. Do people think that looks natural? It doesn't...it looks like hair that's been streaked or bleached. Which is maybe a look that some people aim for, but it doesn't look like anything that happens by itself.

Same with those tans and especially with those air-brush tans that are designed to make you look like you have muscle. What you look like this this: you air-brushed orange paint on your body in streaks to make it look like you have muscle where you don't.

Pale is so gorgeous on someone who is naturally pale. I'd go with what you're given all over and I'd do this particularly in terms of color.

this is in no way related to what the thread starter is going after but it is funny (only because this woman is such a bitch - its actually kind of sad):

picture it...tallish (but you arent really sure because she is ALWAYS wearing heels), slender woman - 60-70something years old. her tits have been remastererd and are consistently hiked just below her chin, clevage always visible. year round she is a very dark bronzy orange fake bake color, and now that it is summer here, is especially crisp. her hair is thinning and she gets it curled and wears it hairsprayed in a way that you can see her scalp. her makeup is always full on and probably takes about 50 minutes for application. i know she has had 3 plastic surgeries, but the boobs are the only one you can really tell was done because she doesnt take care of her skin. she is the biggest bitch of a woman with a age complex so bad it makes you want to vomit on her open toed shoes that display her french manicured toes. shes probably only in her 60's but she looks much older than that with the way she takes care of herself and tries way too hard.

i know this is completely off topic, but i couldnt help it and now i put too much time into typing that so im not gonna not post it

i have olive toned skin, and tan quite easily. but i really don't go out in the sun, or sunbake or anything. i look a bit paleish. i gotta say, even though they're unhealthy, natural tans look better. but not too much. just a little colour

My one friend is ghostly white (beautiful skin) and she does the fake (at-home) tanning sprays. Her legs are variegated. Her forearms, maybe just because she sees them more frequently than she does her legs, but they're usually fairly even but the backs don't match the fronts in terms of color. We'll get together and she'll hold her arm next to mine to compare the color and I am WHITE by comparison. It's not an attractive look for her, I think, but I don't think she can see that. She just sees that she's not pale and pale, to her, is awful.

Funny, the origins of equating being tan with being healthy. The opposite should be the case now and probably will be at some point, just not yet.

Hey,i am blond and have a peach skin ,in the summer i get red and a bit of tanning but not much,i most likely BURN if i am not careful. And ya know i dont give a shit about my tan really. And we all know that cooking in the sun is not really healthy nowadays"skin cancer"maybe.

As for fake tan,you gotta be careful,i heard the story of a lady who stay to long and cook all her inside, she died of it.I guess she did not read the how long it was safe to stay in that weird tanning machine.THis is the extreme case scenario but BEWARE!!

the best way to look tan and have sun protection --> estee lauder (http://www.esteelauder.com/templates/products/sp_nonshaded.tmpl?CATEGORY_ID=CATEGORY5865&PRODUCT_ID=PROD2225)

only... dont use it year round. your face needs a break from chemicals. i only use it when i need to look sunny. i only deal with the sun when i walk around outside. im so afraid of skin cancer.

i agree pale is a good thing also, but having a small bit of fake tan doesn't mean she's gonna turn into a jessica simpson monster! sometimes, you just look a lot healthier and perkier - especially in this weather - with a light tan.

what i would recommend is a moisturiser that has a small amount of fake tan in it, like johnson's holiday skin or that new l'oreal isht. i'm sure you can get it in the states. this way, there's less risk of you smearing yourself orange and missing parts because there's so little stuff in it. you build it up gradually. i use it and it's not streaky at all! stinks of shit though. only do it before you go to bed!

I drove through Scranton yesterday and thought of you, seriously. ;)

Don't go to tanning beds, if you dont mind paying the extra money do a mystic tan, it's when they spray paint you...and it fades evenly. It worked wonders for me, lasted a good 3 weeks and no skin cancer was involved.

it's just too funny how a westerner's desire for tanning is just the oppostie for an easterner's.

My wife is jealous of my pasty skin and everytime we go out in the sun, she carries an umbrella and whines if even a tiny bit of sun touches her skin.

tell me about it.

I've done the fake n bake thing once since it cost me 7 bucks and I was feeling pale (ALL my relatives made fun of me for being so light, my Mom included). So to get a touch of color back on me was nice. That was only because the year before I lived in DC and stayed inside to avoid being really cold or really sweaty, and thus, lost color.

Oh well. If you do it once or very rarely I don't think it's that big of a deal. We all do things that are unhealthy.

GAH! What were you doing in Scranton?! It's an awful town.

I don't want to over do it. I've never done it before. I just want a light tan, like na§tee said. Not oompa loompa-ish.

When or if I go, it's usually for 8 minutes or less (and sporadic). I'll probably go again a few more times and then I'll be done.

if i had a g/f and she wanted to lay in the sun everyday and ruin her skin i wouldnt let her.

If she wanted a tan bad enough id pay for one of those spray on tan thingies.

I mean seriously. If you want a tan you want color. You never think like "im gonna go ruin my skin in the sun".

Do it the safe way. CHEAT!

i still have a tan from being down south almost two months ago.

but my face got crazy pale, and the bags were unbearable. i've been using sisley sunless bronzer - holy shit that stuff is amazing. it's like a touch o' sun, just enough to give a glow. i was afraid it would streak, but the gel speads well & the 'tan' is really smoove & even.
