You could, but it would cost more and take longer. They have many busses that run from DC to NY, take about 4 hours, and cost $35 roundtrip. My friend and I used this service. (http://www.washingtondeluxe.com/) Just make sure you get a receipt that you paid $35 for a roundtrip, otherwise you'll have to pay an extra $20. The guy that drove us was a total assclown and "had no receipts" and told us there'd be no way to prove that we paid the round-trip fee when we were trying to come back. I heard that kind of douchebaggery is rare though.
