god bless him.
Agreed. It's very innappropriate humor, but I can't help it. The latest starred this truck driver that pulled up to the sting house in his big rig and while being arrested the cops found coccaine in his truck (big surprise). He blamed his actions on the coke and swore he'd never do it again. Another, when asked what he thought should happen to him said "Well, I think I should go home and think about it and take it as a learning experience." Also, at the end, there was a funny montage of the douchebags they arrested all saying "I've never done this before."
Priceless.

i sorta get why he felt he had no options. it's one thing to be shamed publicly, it's another when your own office is the one that will be prosecuting you, and you're humiliated in front of everyone you work with. plus, he of all people knows what sex offenders go through for the rest of their lives.
i don't really know whether i feel sorry for him or not. his office (again, he worked for the state attorney) wouldn't have issued a warrant if the messages were innocent or could have been interpreted in an innocent way. dateline isn't the catalyst, predators are the catalyst for the group who dateline then glamorizes on air.
i watched one episode and found that there was way more of this crap going on in one little area than i thought there would be.
i guess, as a parent, i'm glad the people who end up on this show were meeting up with decoys. as a defense attorney, i just sadly shake my head and think "you fucking idiot assholes."

Let's see, do I support kiddie-touchers offing themselves?
Let me think about it for a nanosecond.
Yeah, I guess maybe I do.

yes, it's tragic, isn't it.
When I was working freelance in South Florida I did a story on child predators. We went to different petter asses houses. The cops would check on them to make sure they were still living at their address. They have to file with child protective services and keep their address updated. I was sick because almost every guy looked "normal". One was a college student that looked like your average run of the mill frat boy. Another was an old man of about 70. I was shocked when the police told me each crime when we approached the houses or apartments of the people. It was sad and sick.

Is Dateline doing anything to get to the root of the problem? How do we prevent preditors in the first place? hmmmm.
The only thing I learned from this broadcast is that if your 13 year old girlfriend lives in a nice house (in a nice neighborhood), it's a trap!
However, if she lives in the projects then you're home free.

there are more requirements now.
a sexual predator's address is checked a minimum of 4 times per year, and a sex offender's address is checked once.
anyone deemed a sexual offender or sexual predator must register twice a year with fdle (florida department of law enforcement) on their birthmonth and six months later. if they move or change their name, they must then update both the sheriff of the county in which they live, and the dmv, within 48 hours of a change. there's all sorts of other rules about leaving the state, etc. and one new change makes it so that if someone who has to register in another state is here in florida for at least 10 days, they must register with their temporary address. so, come to florida for a 2 week vacation, you've got to register.
