From IMDB:

The celebrity gossip magazine Life & Style Weekly is publishing details of a prenuptial agreement between Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes that it says calls for Holmes to receive $3 million a year for the first 11 years that she is married to Cruise, at which point she becomes eligible to receive half of Cruise's fortune under California's community property law. The item was picked up by MSNBC.com's Jeannette Walls, who said that Cruise's representatives had declined to comment on it. No date has been set for the nuptials.

...I can't fathom life like this.

Paying someone to be your wife? Is this allowance or wages or what?

This isn't exactly what you're talking about, but I'd like to hire a wife.

Except I want a 1950s wife.

...that would rule out the Pan Asian option, I suppose.

I have a big bias against guys who send away for submissive women with limited options at home. Funny that there's no male equivalent though. :p

The $3 million a year would be what she is entitled to SHOULD they split up. She doesn't make that as a salary by being happily married to him.

You sure? Does a pre-nup only apply in case of divorce, or is it just a condition for marriage in general?

It can be either way. I interpreted the money portion of the Tom/Katie thing for divorce. She has her own money, so I can't imagine why she would get paid $3 million a year, but maybe. Some people put in pre-nups that they can't gain weight or they have to get monthly colonics - shit like that.

That what I thought. The way it's written above -- an the editing in the news section of IMDB is pretty shoddy sometimes -- it reads as if she's just getting #3 million per year, period. But then it reads on that she becomes eligible for half, which implies a divorce...

Bah. Whatever.

I think that was a typo - what it meant is that she gets 3 million Thetans if she divorces Tom. Of course, with her income, and provided she keeps going to the meetings, she should be Grand Empress Of Xygon within a few years and make marriage irrelevant.

I'm thinking of one of those maid rental places, but it's not a gender specific role.

Based on this 'logic', how much does the kid get and at what age?

You were just trying to figure out how to outbid Cruise. Just admit it.

This got a laugh.

Ironic that "Beck" is telling us this stuff, no? :D

I'll do my first step when I'm good and ready, dammit!

Who cares about stuff like this? I don't get it--people running around saying told you so about Paul/Heather, maybe it makes some people feel superior about their own situations in life to think about famous people and their assumed loveless prenups. I don't know. I could not possibly care less about stuff like that.

This is because he is gay and needed a way to get a non-scientologist as his gf/wife. No sane person (female) would get impregnated by him unless there was some monetary compensation. $30+million is more than holmes would probably make on movies if she wasn't involved with a "high-ranking" celeb as cruise.

But I think it all backfired on them when he went crazy over vitamins and excercise.

I mean how come every interviewer had to sign an agreement with his PR agent to not ask about his sexuality? Any straight man who was comfortable with his sexuality wouldn't care about any questions. He is either gay or bi, but hides it because Scientology doesn't allow that. Well maybe a little vitamin and excercise controls gayness. Wait that doesn't seem to work out...
