View Full Version : cover bands at clubs/pubs
ok, i established last night that NO poppy-metro-spiked-hair cover band should EVER cover 'killing in the name of' especially when it's their last song and half the crowd is females.
of course, i was drunk and rocking out to it, birds raised, yelling etc etc but still... fuck, it was shocking. all the girls cleared the floor and all the metro dudes are attempting to mosh with glasses full of drink in their hands. fuckity fuck.
anyone else experianced something to insulting and stupid before with cover bands?

I will never have respect for cover bands.
As a musician, the first thing you should do is make shit of your own views, creativity.
It's a waste of time. Why do you want to be known as the best RATM cover band when you could be known for your own work?
Alot of the music that these fuckers are mocking takes time and effort and practice in order for them to go out to pubs and perform the cover . It takes almost or just a tad bit more of an effort to make your own music.
You will grow out of going to joints that shit.
oh for sure, i know that.
it wasn't the venue, just the band and them covering THAT song that got me heated.
club was black bettys by the way. last resort in northbridge if you ask me.

Yeah I don't go out. My pub is all about cover bands of an even lower caliber than that which you mention.
Every time, same songs. Brown Eyed Girl, Khe Sahn (or whatever that shit is), Play that Funky Music.

Theres some decent cover bands here, and some shockers. One of the decent ones is the cover band that plays at Puggs in Carlton. They play some decent stuff.
Generally cover bands suck a fair bit, a dj is quite often a better option.

you dont wanna ever come to brisbane and go to HMB, there's a regular cover band that does a shocking version of Enter Sandman. Actually come, i wanna see if you get arrested for getting into a fight with the lead singer, lol
neither metallica or RATM should ever be covering in a club.
'enter sandman' is ok in a pub full of cock and beer, yeah why not.
i've also established that all cover bands are pretty much the same image/persona.
lead singers: ALL look the same and sound the same.
guitarists: try to steal the spotlight off the lead singer but dressing/looking different and trying to jump around like a dickhead. the cover band in this thread - the guitarist was trying to mimic The Edge, beanie and goatee and all. he couldn't do the 'killing..' solo for shit.
bass guitarists: usually the only cool people in the band, stand back, back up vocals and try not to suck too much attention.
drummers: the only talented one of the group and probably the only one in the group who thinks to themselves "wtf am i doing in a cover band?"

I think Me First and The Gimmee Gimmee's are pretty cool (y)
They've all earnt the right in their respective bands to have some fun. Or more fun I guess.
Don't think I'd pay to see them though, but if they were on I'd probably have a good time.
