Pretty good; has a halflife of about a day. Vaguely haunting.
Scarlet's good but not as good as I'd expected; Jonathan (?) is pretty much a zero, acting-wise.

Agreed. All the characters were unlikeable.

I liked the brother. I thought Scarlett was bad, Jonathan Rhys Meyers was bad. I just didn't think there was enough motivation for any of it. It seemed thin, unrealistic...too stagey.
It verged on The Talented Mr. Ripley, but without the suspense.
However, the awkward scene where dude wants to go to the movies because Scarlett will be there is pretty good.

weird.
the dialogue seemed forced. and why the fuck did he *do what he did at the end*? i mean, i know why he did it, but that was just stupid.
his wife was ANNOYING. i was not impressed by that movie at all.

I don't know why he did what he did. they didn't really set it up for that. I know it was supposed to be a "twist", but come on, you can't just throw in a twist for no good reason. Lord knows woody built up the symbolism with the tennis and the throwing of the ring, but it certainly didn't lead up to anything so extreme.
also, what kind of business did he work for? cort and I just kept saying, "I need to go to my office and do some paperwork", "I have a business meeting", "business business business", "japanese businessmen!". because it really makes sense that in this day and age someone would give an irish tennis pro with no education a high level corporate job just because he's dating his daughter. NOT.

you're right there - they didn't set that up at all. and the lady? wtf? why? it didn't fit in with the movie at all. i was really sad about the innocent lady.
i guess maybe it was just a story to show that some people just get everything handed to them, it doesn't matter if you are a person with scruples or not.

yeah, I suppose I was hoping it'd be more about how he constructed that life on purpose. At the beginning when he meets the brother and says, "I love opera", it seems like he's being fake and purposely trying to get in with that particular family...like he knew ahead of time that they like opera or something.
I guess I just think plain old luck is a boring theme.

I liked it too!
I just watched The Weather Man last night. Not too big on Nick Cage, but I liked this movie better than Match Point and I haven't watched Match Point but I'm sure I'd 40/hate it.
