Why do people have so much against coffee? I think they just don't like the taste of it and they decide to take a stand against it. Some people!
I know that in large amounts it can be bad for your nervous system, it can be addictive, but there are a lot of things that are bad for you in large amounts. And not everything that is potentially addictive is all bad.
My coworker is an idiot so most of the stuff she says I just ignore but sometimes I let it bother me if I'm feeling feisty.
She said her dad had high cholesterol "and he still drinks coffee!" Puzzling connection there, I asked her honestly "does coffee make that worse?" She said "I don't know, but it's not good for you" Obviously she doesn't know anything about anything. She doesn't eat vegetables, at all. Who's she to talk?
People all over the world drink coffee. People have been drinking it for thousands of years. Some people don't like it and they just totally dismiss it with a kind of superior attitude that annoys me.
I like coffee. I like it six ways to Sunday. Whatever that means. I don't see anything wrong with it. It's not Soda, it's not animal fats, it's not nicotine, it's just coffee. Don't look at me like I'm some weird kinky fetishist.
i love coffee too. it's totally an acquired taste, though. i used to drink it only with loads and loads of sugar and cream, then a little less, then a little less, then i just got lazy and dealt with the taste of it black, and now i actually like it that way. it's one of the few things i do that makes me feel manly

people who dont like coffee have never had good coffee, freshly roasted and brewed, not too strong, with nothing to corrupt it. if you can get organic coffee, the nutty flavor is stronger also.
BUT... more than a few cups a day can fuck with you, so moderation is key, like nuzz said.
did you know, also, that caffeine loses its dehydrating effects when the body gets accustumed to a cup or two a day for about a week or two?

I do think it is an acquired taste but one that you can come to love and thoroughly enjoy in a way that no other hot beverage can do for you.
I don't know why people think it's bad for you. They must associate it with the jokes people make about NEEDING it, being unable to function without it, going into hyper, hysterical, anneurysim-threatening caffenated crazes.
So basically it's fear and misunderstanding that breed resentment. Poor ignorant children, I shake my head sadly for their closed minds as I sip my pleasurable brew.

I never enjoyed coffee until I visited Texas last fall and got hooked. It wasn't so much the caffeine that got me because I don't think caffeine affects me a lot; I was more hooked on the taste.
So I didn't like that too much--wanting something empty & non-nutritious in that way--so in February (I think it was 10 February because I was out with my dad and I remember that date) I had my last cup and haven't thought about it since then.

It's bad if you don't realize the calories you're getting. My one friend puts flavored creamers in her coffee and she doesn't realize, I think, what she's getting in terms of calories. She uses a lot of creamers. Same with the shots of flavoring (huge calories) with no real nutrition behind them.
Plus when I was drinking coffee, I was amazed at the number of people who did not just buy coffee--they'd buy coffee and a muffin, or coffee and a donut, or coffee and a croissant or a bagel or whatever, but rarely was it just a coffee.

Dawn. But both of them are ridiculous. Dawn eats junk food all day long, will scrape any veggies or proper seasonings off her food in restaurants, orders chicken fingers and fries wherever she goes, and gets winded going up two flights of stairs. Doctors are warning her that she's osteopoedic and she's only 30. Girlfriend is the bacon pan calling the coffee black knowmsayn.
Paula is a little more understanding. She used to drink it. She drinks decaf, which I don't even consider as actual coffee, it's just a coffee flavored drink. But she eats a bag of popcorn for lunch everyday then goes for a brisk walk and protests any other food saying she'll blow up like a balloon. I bet she's a closet binger.
Both of them are naturally thin and always were.

It's a daily struggle for me, you know, in the face of such adversity.
I lack the patience to acquire tastes for things most of the time. I didn't like the taste of coffee the first time I tried it - so I generally just don't bother.
I still get some coffee now and again if I go to church or a coffeeshop with a friend. I think I just fail to see the point in forcing myself to like something that I don't immediately enjoy.

I used to get a Maple Oat Scone with my coffee -- any time of day, really. When I first got out of the hospital, I was checking calories, fat content, sodium, protein, and most of ingredients. Turns out my favorite scone has 700 calories and 7 grams of fat.
I also save about $5 a day bringing my own coffee.

For years I never drank coffee or tea in the morning, just so I wouldn't grown dependent on it. It's difficult to gauge whether or not you're giving your body enough rest if you load up on caffeine minutes after you wake up. So I generally slept around 7 or 8 hours a night. Now that I do use it to wake myself up in the morning, I find that I usually sleep between 5 1/2 to 6 hours a night. Some of it can be attributed to changes in lifestyle in general, but a lot of it has to with the fact that I get that extra boost when I most need it. What I'm saying is I need to quit drinking it in the morning. Because I don't like having any vices.
Apart from that, I've really grown to love the taste of coffee. Every now and then I like to add a few drops of Frangelico or Baileys. But not in the morning.

It's true, most people use cream and sugar and that adds up to a lot of calories. I also enjoy chocolate or something bready with my coffee. They compliment each other so well. Those flavored creamers are called International Delight. They sell them in supermarkets by the .5 pint and in a lot of coffee shops. It took me awhile to remember the name. Anyway, one tablespoon is 30 calories. My one friend fills her large coffee mug maybe 1/3 with coffee, 1/3 with cappucino, and 1/3 with International Delight amaretto. I am guessing that that's at least a 400-calorie mug of coffee. She has maybe 4 mugs a day and that, right there, is about what I eat calories-wise on a non-gym day.
The pastries thing is insidious because she doesn't like having coffee without something else and if she's eating something else, she has to have coffee with it.
And aside of the potential calories, the nastiest thing about coffee is smelling someone's Coffee Breath.

About kids, I think if you're using breast milk, the kid will need to have a meal more frequently. Once they go to formula or solids, they can last longer. I seem to remember that 10# is a magic number too. Like when a kid reaches 10#, they can get through the night more easily without food.
I remember feeling extreme excitement when my kid first gave up his 2am feeding. That marked the beginning of my climb back into normalcy because I could get a few hours of sleep right in a row and it was heaven. Yes, you need help to do this in a way so that you can enjoy it--trade off shifts with your mate or someone else who can help. I didn't have that help for a few months and when it came: (y).

That's a little high maintenance.I think she did it for flavoring or texture because she got into it with some sort of pumpkin flavored cappucino that was out/about a couple of Octobers ago. I don't know, honestly, but I can ask her on Saturday. I just sit there and watch her do a bunch of crap to her coffee. Sometimes she puts sprinkles or cocoa on top of all of ^^^. It's a sensual thing to her, I think. It means a thing more than coffee perhaps.
When I had coffee, it was maybe half milk and half coffee. Sometimes I'd use hazlenut coffee. Most times, it was whatever was on that day.

Cold, and immature, yeah.I was young when I had my kid too and I think that's largely why I was scared. Your life shifts and changes, but something will shift and change inside of you too and you'll figure it out, it'll be fine. You might not recognize the shifts happening in real time--it's not like a Hallmark card in that everything is in soft focus at first. It's stinky work sometimes, but then this day comes along when you realize that you truly and absolutely love this kid in a way that you didn't think you were even capable of and it's amazing. It's still all good and an adventure in a lot of ways, and you won't BELIEVE how much you'll learn from your kid. Sometimes it'll feel like your roles are reversed. That is all so fucking mushy sounding and cliched but it's true or at least it was true for me.

"It’s just like when you’ve got some coffee that’s too black, which means it’s too strong. What do you do? You integrate it with cream, you make it weak. But if you pour too much cream in it, you won’t even know you ever had coffee. It used to be hot, it becomes cool. It used to be strong, it becomes weak. It used to wake you up, now it puts you to sleep."

black coffee is the ultimate. no adulterations, max bovril/gravy aftertaste, brutal when accompanied by a rolled cig. i've not looked back since eliminating dairy produce from the insta-coffee experience. i don't enjoy coffee any other way, especially when someone defrags all the caffeine out of it.
i like my coffee strong and black, the same way i like my women

A little note on coffee in South America (well, Chile to be exact):
IT SUCKS!
Yes, that's right. There is NO real coffee in that entire god damn place. All of it is Nestle instant shit, I am not kidding you. Because Nestle has dug it's fucking fingernails into everything down there (including baby formula, which is this big controversy on its own, tangent), they don't have regular drip coffee. I was of course thinking in my little white girl American head "Hey, south america will have the best coffee ever!". When I had my first real cup after getting home from there, it was the best thing ever.
I don't drink it often, but when I do it's usually loaded with extra calories. Hooray for me.
I just stopped drinking soda for good so my caffiene intake is pretty much null now. That's easy though when you don't have a job or anything else to do...

NO FOAM?????????? thats awful. half the fun is the foam!
well, when they put all the foam in, whats left of the latte is next to nothing. Maybe its just where I go, who knows. Call me cheap I guess but I like my cup full to the brim and piping hot.

Plus when I was drinking coffee, I was amazed at the number of people who did not just buy coffee--they'd buy coffee and a muffin, or coffee and a donut, or coffee and a croissant or a bagel or whatever, but rarely was it just a coffee.
I buy just the donut, croissant, bagel or whatever :o
I don't like coffee, but I don't judge either Nuzz. We don't all fear what we don't understand.

Coffee may reduce alcoholic liver damage (http://www.cnn.com/2006/HEALTH/06/13/coffee.liver.reut/index.html)
heh, funny... i was about to report on this. i read that it actually is proven to reduce liver damage.
People who drink one cup of coffee are 20% less likely to have alcoholic cirrhosis than those who abstain from doing so.
And the protective effect increases with the more coffee you drink: People who drink two or three cups a day are 40% less likely to contract cirrhosis, while those who drink four or more cups are 80% less likely to suffer the disease.
my morning coffee is like a ritual. i come back from dropping my son off at school and make one of those baby coffee pressing things and then warm the milk in my special coffee mug my husband bought me for christmas. deee-licious. i don't really drink much alcohol, so it's not cancelling any liver damage.
i have to mix decaff with real coffee, otherwise i'm running up the walls and chatting like a lunatic. i'm quite picky with who i buy the coffee from too. ah, rituals, rituals.
i chew mints to cancel coffee breath :)

It should be noted that those who are not alcoholics probably don't need to worry about alcoholic liver cirrhosis and if they want to go on not drinking coffee, I'm sure their livers will be just as good as they were before.
