I met this guy a while back who was in a band with a buddy of mine, he modded my xbox for me. Anyways, this dude had literally like a bookshelf full of pirated Xbox games, a closet full of pirated programs - I'm sure he had music and movies too but I didn't ask.

Question is...if you get in trouble for that sort of thing do you just go straight to pooper-slam prison? I'm not too familiar with what sort of criminal status all that has or what would actually happen to you. That guy wouldn't make it 2 days hard time.

Maybe Bef knows...she's a lawyer, right?

if the feds arrest him, he'll be held in a local jail until he can post bond on his case. if they choose to prosecute him, then they take into consideration whether he pled or went to trial, what his priors are, etc. the federal guidelines are weird, and there's a lot of factors that go into where he falls within the guidelines, but there's a possibility he would get probation instead of time in the pen. if he had to go to the pen, they classify him first, so he could end up in a nice minimum security place.

Nahhh, unless he is on the top end of some major pirating operation, fuck all would happen. They most they'd do is possibly confiscate all illegal material, and perhaps a fine. But I'd say that'd be pushing it. I got my PC confiscated by the fuzz last year, and the HD contained like 100 DVD rips and like 50GB of music and various other pirated software, but it's not like they did everything, and they gave it back intact. They even saw my stack of DVD copies when they searched my room, nada happened.

You're from where again?

btw, thanks Bef!
