I've never had gin before...but I don't think it tastes so great. I was told it's an accquired taste, but then so's coffee and I don't feel obligated to drink that.

Also, some guy at work said that "you can't digest gin, it has to be sweat out of your body." I think he's full of it, couldn't find anything to support his theory.

He's full of it. Gin is floral, certainly. Archaically known as "Mother's ruin". I find a Gin / Vodka / White Rum combination goes down well with cranberry. I call it "kidney dialysis" and give it a number "(mark 1, mark 2, Mark 3) depending on the ratio of spirits.

i always thought it tasted like pine trees. pine trees that got burned up in a tar fire.

it goes down ok with orange juice but jesus christ it's bad on its own. i did a straight shot of it once, i almost retched. i'm not a pussy, i can handle hard liquor pretty well, but wow. i've never had a gin martini, don't plan to.

i do like gin and tonic though.

gin martini's need some sort of flavor to help smooth it out. i had a dirty martini once (just a little olive juice added) and it was still pretty harsh. i imagine ones with citrus flavors added wouldn't be too bad

well it is made from juniper (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Juniper)

juniper has been a special plant for people since prehistoric times

gin + tonic + ginger syrup + twist of lime + warm summer evening = (y)

gin's not so bad, I used to hate it. I like gin and tonic a lot. but I can't drink it too much, because it makea me crazy. actually I've been laying off the liquor lately, because the night usually ends in tears. 4 beers, no tears. 4 gins, crying in bins? I just made that up.

^what I was gonna say.

ginger syrup is the best! They use to make it at the bar I worked at. we used it to make something we called a ginger shaker, Shakers brand Vodka+ ginger syrup+splash of lemon juice, shake and serve up.(y) so choice.

I had a friend that went into a coma from playing quarters with Tanqueray.

He was loosing and the next thing we knew, he fell head first into the coffee table.

We thought he was just passed out drunk so we took him home to his parents and they called my one friend he was playing quarters with and asked him what they gave their son because he was in a coma at the hospital.

When Im out drinking, I always tend to have at least one bloody mary and an irish carbomb. I usually squeeze those in between my combination of yuengling and jack daniels. Sometimes, if I'm feelin' froggy/wealthy, I'll knock back some grey goose and some cabo wabo. if no cabo, 1800.

now that DIGI mentions bloody mary, I just now remembered that I used to drink that to cure my hangovers. Also just a beer in tomato juice works too.

I could post this in the hangover thread but the guy went to work already, I suppose.

wow. well since gin is made from the plant juniper maybe he his reaction to it was not just from the excessive drinking but also an allergy to it.

it's no reaction because I used to always drink gin with him. Believe me, they were rolling hard with the quarters game.

He still drinks it but not in mass amounts anymore.

Try a dirty martini with a nice vodka instead (y) I personally don't like gin. Like you said, it tastes like I'm eating a Christmas tree

Ya know, I hated gin up until about a year or more ago. I gave it a shot. Mixed gin and tonics with well, mostly lime and tonic. As summer came around I began to crave them. Now, it's almost sick... I literally pour a glass of gin and splash some tonic on top. Go figure. Definately an acquired taste.

i like my gin and tonic with lots of lime.

i use a 3:1 ratio of tonic to gin
