So I'm not real in the loop skating wise, but I thought I'd share some of my favourites over the years. Westside is the lick, Youtube is the click.

Peter Smolik-Making Muska look bad. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o3jMjot45AY&search=Peter%20Smolik)
Marcus McBride-2nd to None (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VLPSXcbhdjM&search=Marcus%20McBride)
Jason Lee-Visual Sound (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-vK_Tr7Q8ao&search=Jason%20Lee)
Jason Lee-Video Days (Back when Spike Jonze was a skate nerd) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YYEs82NfItI&search=Jason%20Lee)

Haha. I remember a point where I skated and played Magic:The Gathering (at different times). And there's always been the video-game thing. The nerdiness disspiated once I started picking up women.

tom penny in that sorry clip is really great. great song too. he got known in 92 or something whne he turned up at a comp doing what is known as modern skating i.e hardflips and stuff back in '92 or something.
i really need to get back to skating. i was half way through some of my best skating for a local vid until i broke my collarbone. when its fully healed i'll be back skating to finish it and post the vid up.

He did a switch front-slide flip revert in a mini ramp contest and won it. In Bristol, I believe. Dude's money. I would have put all his parts up, but I figured I'd let other people play.
I wear skate goods still. Some little shit berated me, in town. Fuck that, I threw myself down shit, broke bones and bolted from the pigs to wear this.
Thinking about it, I could have saved myself the physical pain by buying a pair of piss-catchers and getting a fashion-mullet.

Without having seen it, I remember a clip or show that used to run on Super Channel way back when, underlaid with "Free falling". That it? Even better, there was this funky rap tune that went something like this: "Once upon a time, there lived up in his town, playing on his drum kit, yes he was down..." or something. It was like 1988 or so(I remember Gator falling of a building impaling his neck on a fence in Frankfurt) Anyway, I'd love to get this song...
BTW I played both MTG (with my Black Lotus) AND Warhammer (RPG) at my high point at sk8boarding. That's because you never have as much free time as when you're 16 (in an Internet-less time).

Anterior Cruciate Ligament. Keeps the knee bendy, I think. Had it bend back far enough for it to be agony, and never went to a doctor. I can push around on a board for a little bit, but I can't do it like I used to. I got back into it heavy in 2001, but my body was fucked by then from drugs and shit.

I think Christian Hosoi got out of jail two years ago. He was in for dealing drugs.
That's him putting holes in the studio roof in the vid for 'Pass the Mic'. And Yauch's filming him in 'Looking down the Barrel'.

yeah, Rock said something about that and it too suprised me because back when I skated he was pretty much straight edge.
I quit skating around 94 so I kinda lost touch with all the events.
The Christ Air.... I had a poster back in the 80's of him doing that pose and it said, "Go for it" on the bottom.
I need to check those vids that Remey posted for sure. I've always been a Bones Brigade fan and I'll have to see if I can dig up a Kevin Harris session too. Can't forget about that legend.

I always liked Mike McGill and Steve Caballero back in like 1990. Jim Thiebaud was sick too. I spose nothing was better than T.Hawk, but dudes like Gator and Tony Magnusson were close.
The blast ramp craze of 1990-91 was some fun shit at the time. I remember this kid Jeremy had the newest Lance Mountain board with those coloured stick figures, and his Dad built this little blast. We had the fun times on that thing.
I can still do a Boneless.

(y) oh yeah, can't forget bout Cab, Lance and McGill either. I can't remember if he was on the Peralta team but, Danny Way was pulling some sick ass airs on a vert and also was a great street skater and he was only like what? 13 or 14 back then. He quit team Peralta, went to H-Street and then to Blind with Jason Lee and Mark Gonzales.
Monster Mike Vallely's still ripping it up too and for sure, T Hawk gets all the respect that he deserves. The man is in his either late 30's or early 40's and he's still catching 20' air on the vert.
G&S had some decent skaters too. Neil Blender was a superb street skater and I had the Nicky Guerrero deck. (http://www.oldschoolskates.com/images/DECKS/654.htm) That board was like a corvette with a long ass nose and some of the deepest concave for it's time. I also had an autograph from G.E. Smith (SNL guitarist) on it.
Matt Hensley was also a huge influence for street skating. I'm not even sure if H-street is existant anymore but their skate demos were almost equal in comparison as Bones Brigade's to watch.
Edit: I can still do an acid drop

Danny Way went to Plan B. His part in Questionable is amazing. He was young. The frontside 360 down stairs in the Time for Livin video is Danny Way. There's also Pat Duffy, Sean Sheffey and Mike Carroll in that flick.

I remember the panic when I first learned to drop in. I could shred a ramp when I was like 10-11, then I stopped for a while. At about 14 I was skating street, but I always wanted to be able to do like kickflips and shit on a mini.

fucking dropping in was so damn easy but everybody was afraid to do it.
I've managed to do about 15 face-slides till I finally got it down.
Another thing that made us look cool in the early 80's was acid dropping off shit. Cars, garages, trees.
Power slides were fun too, especially in the rain. We'd go out skating in storms and have powerslide competitions only to bitch and moan the next week because our decks were warped and bearings were rusted out.
We also judged each other by the wear on our trucks, ollie holes on shoes and damage to our rails.
I've also managed to rack my nuts way too many times doing railslides on parking lot barriers but never had balls enough to slide down steps.

Just started skating again last week for exercise...and man am I fucking rusty. It took me more tries than I'd like to admit to ollie over 3 boards stacked up. And I totally lost the kickflips. I should come back to me in a week or so....hopefully.

The problem with skating switch I found is that some tricks were easier, and I couldn't do them normally. And how can a person justify that?

Sounds good. There's a bowl I played around in that's in Brixton, London. Usually turns up in videos. And I don't know if anybody remembers Big Brother magazine (wiith the Tits, guns and bible burning (y) ), but they had a cover of Keith Hufnagle clearing some concrete bank-to-bank gap. That was the University just around the corner from where we posted up in London.
How long have you been off your board?
5 years. And it was my only source of exercise. So in those 5 years....I added some lbs. to the ole gut.

Big Brother was great because of all the boobies and haught ads (Thank you Larry Flynt). And their first couple of videos enjoyable.
I remember their first issue. The one that was like a cereal box with penis shaped cereal.

has anybody pulled off an insane trick that they had no intentions at all of doing?
I went to do just a plain old one footed ollie across this little cement platform that was like 3' in width.
I kicked the tail, tweaked out my front foot which caused me to do a kick-flip to tail right on the edge of the platform.
My buddies were all stoked and I played it off by saying, "Dammit, it didn't spin as many times as I wanted it to."

I tried to heelflip up onto this long wooden stage once, and landed in the cleanest nose-manual, just smoothed it out all the way to the end. It locked in in such a way I could never have planned to do it so good. And it was my first shot at the heelflip. I completely played it off as intentional. Rick Kosick was some funny dude. His quotes were gold. "Why have you changed the tone of your song?". I remember when Chris Nieratko joined it went downhill. Nieratko edited an East-Coast skate and Snow mag whose name completely escapes me, and he always wrote about killing himself, and how if he found his own body, he'd set it on fire. Fucking work has youtube blocked so I can't even see half of this shit...although i've probably seen it.
you too eh? Dammit, I get this fucking "streaming media is prohibited shield" when I try to open youtube and then when I go home to watch it, a 6 min video takes 20 minutes to watch because my network is shit.
I only got to watch that first vid of Plan B that Kid posted and then it was time for me to crash afterwards. It's all good though because now I have something to watch on my days off.
This stuff is going to make me buy a new deck. I just know it.

I'm thinking about buying a second hand one, and getting it re-gripped now. But I won't.

more info on the Autumn Bowl...
"The facility is private co-operative. Those skaters involved rent a key paying for rent and electricity of the space. Maintenence and development is volunteered by the skateboarders whom are keyholders. In return, they have a spot to skate at their leisure anytime 24/7. The facility is non-profit. Its sole purpose is to collectively provide and maintain a private space for skateboarders to access during the long stretch of bad weather NYC experiences. NYC hasn't ever had a place to skate on this level when mother nature is raging– until now. The only way it can happen and survive is by doing it collectively."

Do it. I just did. And if I do it, you know its the right thing to do.
We can be like those old dudes in the clubs that are hitting on girls that are half their age, but instead we would be those old dudes on skateboards complaining about our joints hurting and how we have to cut the session short because we have to balance the checkbook.

Why not get a used one? I'm sure you can find some poser with a board that has minimal to zero wear and tear on the trucks or stress cracks.
I'm really thinking about it too. As mentioned early about damaging oneself. I've got alot more balls now than when I was a kid so, I'd probably end up doing all the shit I was afraid to.
Of course it will mean some pricy hospital trips since I'm more clumsy than I was back then and I'm also not as lanky either.
I'll have to just start off where I finished I guess. Manual rides, one footers, truck grinds, rail slides, kick flips and watch videos to catch up on all the new snazzy jazz they're doing nowadays.

this thread would be Andre the Giant coming from the grave and eating all of those guys' brains if we all bought boards and told our "fishing" stories. It'd be nice if it could be a sticky.
I'm going to link some Ray Barbee shit that I found on youtube when I was home earlier. It's even got some stuff with his band too.
I'll have to find some Mark Gonzales demos too.

bizzump
has anybody pulled off an insane trick that they had no intentions at all of doing?
I went to do just a plain old one footed ollie across this little cement platform that was like 3' in width.
I kicked the tail, tweaked out my front foot which caused me to do a kick-flip to tail right on the edge of the platform.
My buddies were all stoked and I played it off by saying, "Dammit, it didn't spin as many times as I wanted it to."
yeah, tried ollie'ing some bricks... hopped 'em and did a nice 10-15 ft odd manual... tried it again and i got the scars for it.
edit: andy, i'll sell ya my setup. it really is gathering dust now. offers there if you're interested ;)

Signature moves were always the hype for me while watching a demo. Hosoi would bust out his invented moves such as the backside crossbone air or rocket air but of course, no demo of him was complete without his Christ Air.
Or when Tony Hawk was the first one to complete the 900. He's invented so many tricks and chosing between his frontside 540 rodeo flip or madonna is too hard to decide. I'd say my personal favorite from him was the kickflip mctwist.

i gave up a while ago.. about? 3 or 4 years ago?
i've probably gone proper skating on it at parks twice in the last 2 years. just fell out of it for some reason (watching some guy bust his elbow joint the wrong way BADLY!) i felt physically sick looking at it.
