I finally got around to buying the latest BB's CD and was disgusted. I can't believe that they are now in the politics business. Correct me if I am wrong, but the BB's have never taken a stance one way or the other in their music before. I will tell you upfront that I am a far right conservative, however, I don't agree with what Bush is doing. He is fighting the War too sensitively, spending is out of control and he is deaf when it comes to ILLEGAL immigration (I purposely emphasized illegal as I am all for legal immigrants).
Anyway, the BB's have no clue what they are talking about regarding the Kyoto Treaty. Did they not realize that the Kyoto Conference originally took place under Clinton's tenure and that the Clinton administration are the ones responsible for not ratifing the treaty? Are the BB's not aware that Congress was informally polled by the White House on how they would vote and something like 90% would vote against ratifing the treaty? Do the BB's not understand the implications of us signing the Treaty? Your electric bills would triple which would cause the housing market to crash. Strict regulations would be placed on car builders such that a $20k car would turn into a $30k car. It would cause what manufacturing plants we have in the US to move to third world countries or other countries that didn't ratify the treaty b/c it would cost too much to stay in business in the US and still be competitive. This kind of stuff doesn't effect the BB's b/c they have cash coming out their wazuu's, but for working folks like us it would be devasting. Every economist in the US said the Kyoto Treaty would cause our country to go into another severe Depression.
And don't get me started on Global Warming BS. The foremost Hurricane specialists Colorado State's Bill Gray said that Global Warming is a hoax and that in the mid-70's the scientists were all worried about Global Cooling. All the scientists said if we didn't do something that we would all be fronzen in 15-20 years. Now they have all jumped on the bandwagon that we are in all going to burn to death due to global warming. Are you kidding me? I personally know 2 young scientists that believe without a shadow of doubt that the human race is not responsible for the warming of the planet, but that the planet goes through periodic warming trends and cooling trends. They believe that we are just begining a warming trend. They also went on to tell me that the majority of the younger generation of scientists don't believe in Global Warming, but are afraid to come out against it b/c it could potentially stall their carreer's and ostracize them from the scientific community. If you could take a private poll of the scientists that support Global Warming, you would probably see a 4-1 ratio in favor of no Global Warming just a warming trend that will give way to a cooling trend.
I know some of if not all of you will think I am full of it and my guess is that those that disagree with me are either in your teens or twenties and get your information from CNN, MSNBC, ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox News, etc. If you really want to learn what is really going on, you have to do your OWN research. Internet searches are not enough and are most likely opinions instead of facts. You need to go to your local Library, it is the place in most neiborhoods that have books, and look up scientific papers, scientific journals, etc.
I hope this post woke some of you up, but I fear that I just made you blink and now you are back to text messaging your friend.

I am not uptight and don't have alot of time. I am just not happy with the way Hollywood has been acting lately. Hollywood believes that for some reason they are more informed than the average Joe and feels compelled to bombard us with their uninformed opinions. These uninformed opinions are taken as fact by some of the less educated and/or easily swayed people of this country (and world). It is very disheartening to say the least.
wow where to start? It must be an awful burden to know EVERYTHING and have to exist amongst so many stupid people eh?
First, your young scientists are right in one aspect. The planet does go in and out of cooling and heating stages but the effect of industrialization cannot be denied in considering its impact on the environment. If anything it has definitely expodited the situation in ways that we cannot imagine at this point. And as far as your "young scientists" argument goes, I have been recently involved with "young scientists" who are arguing for Creationism. So just being young and a scientist does not make one an authority.
Second, and this should be the clearest point. If you don't like what the BBoys have to say and you disagree with them so whole heartedly--do everyone a favor and don't listen to them. They have been politically active for ever, and if you are surprised I dare say you have not been paying attention. Maybe you should stick closer to someone politcally motivated as you to look to, say maybe Brittney Spears? She seems more closely related to your flawed logic and assanine diatribe. Not everything to be known is in books and libraries or online. Sometimes you have to look beyond what you read or hear and use rational thought to determine what is best for the world.
And if I have to pay triple my electric bill (which is not determined by Kyoto) for a better evironment, so be it. We owe it to the planet to make it up to it all the damage our carelessness has caused. So maybe you need some more time to get your information together and take a stand for something more important than money. But if you think dissing the BBoys on their own boards is a better use of your time, then waste it away buddy.

Been political, been political
I believe it shows a mark of immaturity when someones favorite band outgrows their capacity. When the BBoys went political, it only made me respect them more. When you get older you need more from your idols than bubble gum and a cherry beat. It is awesome when you get great music from great people. What do you stand for?

Your first rebuttal has no facts. Even scientists that support global warming don't have facts to backup their assertions that industrialization is supposedly causing global warming. They all seem to forget that the earth has gone through many warming and cooling trends...ice age anyone. And trying to relate creationism and global warming and cooling trends is absolutely ludicrous.
Second rebuttal has no merit b/c the Kyoto Treaty has no merit. The Kyoto Treaty is basing its whole existence in the fact that Global Warming will cause the extinction of the human race if not stopped, which is not correct. I think it is very bold to assume that we can destroy the Earth in less than 100 years when the Earth has been around for millions of years. I bet in 20 years the new thing will be that we will freeze to death due to Global Cooling.
I will again ask. Before their latest release, what songs did they talk about politics? For the life of me I don't recall.

Thank you. I never went to any of their concerts so I guess that is why I was not aware of their political leanings. Also, I only have listened to their major CD releases so if they released single songs here and there about politics I never heard those as well.
I completely agree with you about idols as you get older. However, the sad fact is when you get older you begin to see through all the smoke and mirrors of your idols (except your father). And that is exactly what has happened with alot of my childhood idols. Now the only idol I have is my deceased father and I strive to be the best father (and possibly an idol) for my two sons.

First off: What do the B-Boys have to do with Hollywood? Second: What's this diffuse image of Hollywood you have? Third: Don't you think there exist conservative positions for environmentalism? Fourth: How do you know the B-Boys aren't conservative? Maybe there free thinkers whose goal is freedom and worry less about party politics.

Well, OK, so their point of view is pretty much the opposite of your point of view. So what's your point?
Obviously they have a right to express themselves, same as you're doing now...and if you don't agree with them and it bothers you so much, don't listen to them. Problem solved.

First of all, you sound like a jackass coming in here and saying Global Warming is a hoax, and the kyoto treaty was worthless. That makes you sound very uneducated, or a straight up ignorant right hand tool.
Beastie Boys have been making political statements in their cds since Pauls Boutique (the 2nd cd after LTI). They have just gotten a lot more involved to the point they rap A LOT about political things now. Every album has some political remarks to it.
Its nice of you to Finally buy TT5Bs, but you are a day late and a dollar short, and coming out with a first post like this is not going to make you any friends around here. Obviously you wouldnt want to be so bold to note where you are from, and your age.....? Probably somewhere in the midwest. Now please go back to hating on the Dixie Chicks and watching the Fox News special about the Global Warming Hoax.

I'm not sure what you were expecting, because "To The Five Boroughs" was hyped up to be a very politically charged album. I consider myself fairly conservative, but you are simply pushing ideas here that people are not going to absorb. TTFB is a great record, just try to filter out the political stuff.

It appears to me that all Americans are more involved in politics since Bush started fucking up your country. I don't think there has been a need for the Beastie Boys to be so policital in the past. I really can't say too much about global warming as I know didly shit about it, whether big V8 and V12 4 x 4's contribute to fucking the planet up or not. All I know is I fucking hate SUV's and big fuck off 4 x 4's. There is no point in having one unless you are a farmer...live way out in the sticks and need 4 x 4 drive for when the snow kicks in. People that don't need them a) take up twice the parking space needed, and b) if one of them hits a kid, the front bumber is around head hight, it will kill in an instant. Normally the kind of twat driving one feels the need to own the road, something to do with having a big fucking truck and bieing high up. TT5B is a great album, whether you're into political side of it or not. I aint a newbie here either, I had mayor pc probs and lost everything on it. At 38, I've seen these guys countless times from year dot when they first dropped LTI.
1st--I did not say that industrialiazation CAUSED global warming you dink. I said it contributed to the devastation to the environment ALONG with the Earths natural processess. And the relation of creationism and global warming is clear. Neither can be proven nor disproven yet stupid fucks still argue about it instead of doing something about it.
2nd-- The world has bigger issues than whether we destroy the planet in 100 years. We won't, the planet will last millions more, it is about keeping it habitable, with fresh air and clean water. We won't destroy the Earth but we have it in our power to destroy the living conditions. So get your shit straight. Stop being so shortsighted. GEt out of your twenties before you start talking shit about politics.
And thank you Travis Bickle for your hard work and research. I appreciate that.

Not really bothered by this thread in general but one thing stood out
And don't get me started on Global Warming BS. If you could take a private poll of the scientists that support Global Warming, you would probably see a 4-1 ratio in favor of no Global Warming just a warming trend that will give way to a cooling trend.
to borrow a similar phrase to what you said in your closing comments, how is this fact and not opinion?
A scientist says 'global warming is a hoax' another scientist says 'global warming is a real threat'. One of them is wrong, it's a matter of who you believe, but I really don't see much empirical evidence of a global warming hoax in that paragraph that would have you sway me to your cause. Scientists can be wrong, and have been in the past. But yknow, to me, that whole paragraph reeks of total subjectivity and 'my word against yours'-isms. Just saying.
For the record, I have no particular stance on global warming, but am leaning to the idea that it is an exaggerated problem. Time will tell, though.
Dr. Frankenstein was a young scientist at one point.
