I did not get to see Dave Chappelle's Block Party at the theater. I bought the DVD today. When Lauren Hill came out on stage a tear came to my eye and if you think I am a pussy..................FUCK YOU!!!!!!!!!
If you are like me and did not see the film at the theater I invite you to watch this DVD. The Hip-Hop in this movie is a beast and all the artists featured are just that.............artists.

I am pissed because I can't turn on Comedy Central and see any new Dave skits.

supposedly the "lost episodes" of Chappelle are going to start or air on July 9th or 11th (can't remember for sure)...

Why?
I really can't say A to the Z. That moment of the film affected me. Hell, I cried from Good Times when James Evans died.
Did you see the film?

Michel Gondry directed this film in a cinema verite style. I got the overwhelming feeling and idea of unity from this film. I would rank this film right up there with Martin Scorsese's film The Last Waltz.

I haven't seen Block Party.

Is Lauren Hill dead?

The Last Waltz is great stuff. I used to watch it (among other times) every year at thanksgiving.

i saw it in theatres, and thought it was deadly. everyone else seemed to be disappointed that it was all performances, and not like his show.

being at that show would have definately been a life high point. almost every artist i have ever wanted to see was there.

as far as i know, Lauren Hill isn't dead.

I didn't think she was.

So I guess I still don't understand what was so moving about it.

the fact that it was the first time they had performed together for almost a decade?

I didn't know the context, and now I do. Thank you.

A to the Z, you should go rent it. I am sure you will enjoy the film and performances. Instead of opting for an entire performance piece Gondry chose to integrate real life Chappelle meetings/recruiting for the block party. He also met people on the block where he chose to hold the concert. It is really a good documentary/concert film. The DVD also has extended performances of...........
Mos Def, Kanye West, Dead Prez, Erykah Badu, Bilal ,Common, The Roots, The Fugees, Big Daddy Kane, Talib Kweli, John Legend, Jill Scott, The Central State University Marching Band, etc..............

You could tell all the artists really enjoyed the experience of the rain soaked block party. I have seen The Roots, Erykah Badu and Mos Def live but they really brought it in this concert. Ahmir from the Roots was basically the musical director for the concert and the Roots were the house band.

I got what you were pushing, Yeti. When Lauren Hill sings "The Sweetest Thing" from Love Jones the hair on my neck stands up.

Hip hop has always beena peripheral (sp?) vision thing for me, so I didn't understand the context of this at all. So Lauren Hill walks out onstage.

...so? You mean the Grammy-winning "miseducation of" chick. Well, that's cool.

I had just the dimmest idea that she'd been in any group before, so it just didn't register. My bad.

I was watching it earlier and was pretty glad that since it was filmed in 2004, there were no Kanye songs from 'Late Registration,' the single most overrated album of 2005.

God Yeti you are awesome!

I cannot wait to see it. You know, I may just go buy it instead of bothering with a rental.
