View Full Version : the big lebowski
ok, i've downloaded two different dvdrips (so they say) and they both go out of audio-sync at the part where dude and walter get to the mansion and hoffman says "who is this guy, dude?" "i'm a fuckin veteran" etc etc.
does the movie actually go out of sync on purpose or am i just tripping balls?
and is it just me or does everyone feel sorry for donny? funny shit but... damn, i wish he could have more roles in the film.

TBL is a sick film though, a real classic. (y)

...for what it's worth -- yeah, I think most folks feel for Donny. That's why the part he has at the end is effective.

Is there are more-quoted movie on this board?
I swear, every couple months it seems like some completely off-Lebowski thread turns into a quote-fest.
It's nice so many of us agree on something.
That rug really tied the room together.
i just love walter's unrestrained hate for donny. my favorite part (actually i have like 1,000 favorite parts but here's one) is when donny says something like "they posted the schedule for the tournament" and walter goes "donny, shut the- when are we playing?". i just love that "shut the fuck up donny" is his instinctual response to everything he says. i've started doing that to people i hate. not saying it though. just thinking it. like in class, when someone raises their hand, i'll go "shut the fuck up...oh that's actually a good question"

I could write a thesis on The Big Lebowski...
I swear I discover something new every time I watch it...
while it is the most quotable comedy in the history of time, you could analyze this film in a film studies class and get a whole semester of work out of it...
I think the central theme/message in The Big Lebowski can be summed up in one quote from the movie...
"What makes a man, Lebowski?"
here you have an unemployed stoner who is behind on his rent every month, enjoys the simple things in life such as bowling and Creedence, but he has lived a whole life, his past tells us that he was politically active (Seattle Seven (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seattle_Liberation_Front), Port Huron Statement (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Port_Huron_Statement)) and he seems to be an Everyman, "In bed with everybody", and from the opening monologue, "he's the man for his time and place.... well, he's the man"
another keyword is "Achieve"
this word or phrase comes up numerous times from the lips of "the Big Lebowski," who defines success as conquering the business world or fighting in a war... "I've achieved more in my lifetime", "Little Lebowski Urban Achievers", "TIME Magazine Man of The Year- Are you a Lebowski Achiever?"

^Nice sig. Good ol' George Zimmer. Wiki states he's huge on therapeutic MDMA and pot legalization funding. That's hilarious.
