Americans don't have one specific culture just for ourselves, so no. Unless you count reality TV, which I would argue is the only thing that binds all Americans. So umm...yeah, I'm not a part of my culture. (n)

Not sure if I'm accurate but, if you want to claim a culture then you need to be full blooded of some race whereas the majority of Americans are mutts.

The only people in America that can actually claim a culture are migrants from other countries.

Am I making any sense?

Well, I do think that culture is mostly hereditary (in the fact that it's passed down from generations before you), and it does work out that most of the people in a country will stay in the same country and pass down their cultural customs to those in the country as well. Thus them having the same language, customs, holidays, and entertainment as others in the same country and it's what binds them together as having a national culture in that respect. However, America's unique in that we can't do that. We don't have a single national culture because we have so many different genetic ties. We try to go for a singular national culture, but it doesn't work out that way.

I do think that Americans can still cling to other cultures, even if they are mutts. For example, I'm a euro-mutt, but I've been passed down different cultural customs from my relatives, and hold claim to their national culture because of it. It's not to say that Americans have no culture, it's that we have so MANY different cultures that we can't choose one.

I just think of it like this...

My moms came to the states when she was 6 from Belfast. My Grandpa died when she was 9 and my Grandma died 10 years after my Grandpa died. During those 10 years that my Grandma raised my mom, my Grandma suffered alot of physical challanges and had to send my mom to a foster home and then she died. After all happened, my mom grew up with foster parents which were both from Ohio.

My pops is Cherokee and was raised during the Vietnam era and really had no choice for a good living so, he went to Vietnam and fought and he didn't have any place with his family afterwards.

Being that I'm the offspring of both of them. I can't say that I have a culture in which to define me but, it will never stop me from traveling to other regions to study or enduldge into thier surroundings.

If you can't decide which culture that you want to be then don't.

Just read more and more or, travel to different lands and you don't have to worry about finding yourself and enduldge.

I associate with a group of chronic malcontents. At one point in my life I owned a lot of anger, now I just grumble and occaisionally smile.

I've always been accepted by the "normal people" yet it is a struggle for me to hang.

I know how it feels to be seemingly superior and have an inferiority complex all at the same time. It's taken years to not give a shit and go with the flow.

Exception: GWB Faith-Based fucks are served my wrath w/o hesitation.

i have no idea where my heredity comes from and where my culture originates and i probably wouldnt ever wonder about it if people didnt ask me all the damn time --- WHICH is because americans do cling to their ancestry. im a mutt just like everyone else, i just must also look a little bit ethnic i guess.

That's weird because I was born in a country drowning in yellow and green clad idiot and slappers. It's funny how that sometimes happens.

I don't know why you'd think that. Different countries have different cultures due to different ethnicitys.

I think ethnics has alot to do with culture.

Culture means a common language, tradition and livlihood. So it can mean a hip-hop culture, criminal cuture, american culture... You are thinking of certain types of culture - like germans doing that slap dance thing - but anyone can be immersed and associate themselves in that culture regardless of their colour or ethnic heritage.

I guess alot of groups do lean heavily on ethnicity; like Sobas nazi chums that he now feels alienated from, but they are part of a larger culture.

Sorry to get technical.

dumbasses all of yous. we're part of the bbmb culture. and dont say it cant be, look at us. we celebrate each other, we fight with each other, we all listen to similar music and we share it...

next time someone asks what your culture is, just say BBMB. and then turn around and leave.

i've never thought about what my culture would be or whether or not i fit in with it. you know it hasn't really bothered me.

to be honest i don't really like culture, it's just being obliged to act a certain way because of when/where/amongst whom you were born. nuts to that. don't care.

well alright that's a narrow definition and probably a wrong one, but i just hate the idea of being told "this is your culture, this is what you do". err, no i don't, if that's what i did, i'd be doing it, but i'm not, so what now?

pick your own culture already
