You know Timothy Hutton directed the video for that song? True story.

Pilot? You mean that band that wound up on the Alan Parsons albums?
whenever i think of the cars, i immediately think of that gary newman (i think!) song. you know, "in CARS" etc etc, but that's not a cars song...i don't think.
i love just what i needed. i found a mix cd i made from about 4 years ago that has that song on it, and i still sing along to it in the car. then i heard it on a commercial and now i hate it. then i saw it again on an old sifl and olly tape i have, and i love it again.

I very nearly voted for that one. It was close, and I'm still not sure if I'm right.
That album is just stone classic.

Don't know anything about them doing something with Alan Parsons, but I remember the hit (http://www.gocontinental.com/photos2/pilot2a.jpg) from my teens.
And the Gary Numan track is called Cars (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oEyyZa35QSM).

That album IS staggeringly awesome. It's like hit after hit after hit. And it's their debut album, not a greatest hits compilation.
I went for "Just What I've Needed," but I have a soft spot for that one song (whose title I'm forgetting, so refresh my memory a-z) that was used in "Fast Times at Ridgemont HIgh" (during the fantasy sequence at the pool with Phoebe Cates).

Yeah -- those images are forever wed to that song. (y)

Damn  ...I assumed "Magic" would have been an option in your poll. But when I didn't see it, I assumed it wasn't the title.
So...please recall "My Best Friend's Girl" vote, and I hereby cast an official vote for "Magic" :D

Didn't Rick O. have his right ear pierced? And that meant you were gay instead of cool?
Of course this a long time ago before everyone pierced everything.

"Good Times Roll"
(man is this going to date me :o ) )The Cars' tour for their album Shake It Up was the very first concert I ever went to. At school the next day the kids that wore one of their t-shirts with nude women on the front - but which had no actual details of any particular body part - had to wear them inside out. I still have my t-shirt hanging in my closet (and no I don't wear it anymore;) ).

I thought I heard that he was married to the girl in the "You Might Think" video at some point? No idea if that's true though. That was such a great 80s video. (y)

And unless he's changed jobs again, Ric is also running the Elektra label (part of the huge Warner Bros. records company) which is/was The Cars label.
In addition to producing other people's albums he done quite a few of his own, though I only own this one: Beatitude (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000000OX9/sr=1-5/qid=1150951863/ref=sr_1_5/104-6860990-8098337?%5Fencoding=UTF8&s=music). It's decent IMO though kinda "out there".

what about 'shake it up?'

'My Best Friend's Girl' cannot be the best because the guitar refrain reminds me too much of the one in The Beatles' "I Will'. And I just don't really like that song very much. 'Just What I Needed', on the other hand, doesn't remind me of anything remotely deplorable in any way, and is just one of the three best pop songs of all time.
